Hi all
Any idea of the cost of train tickets?. We are travelling 1st week December and returning 9/10 days later.
Also is it possible/cheaper to buy them in advance?

I have to agree SHs here.
Just to test it I type "Train from Geneva to Verbier"
The first site suggests using bus costing from 49.50 CHF
Then the Wikitravel site tells the readers
"By train
There is no direct train service to Verbier. Passengers coming from Geneva will need to take a train to Martigny and then change trains to take the "St. Bernard Express" to Le Châble, the Verbier base station. From there passengers can take the cable car or the Postal Bus to get up to Verbier. "
Seems to me there is tons of information for the Verbier/Geneva transfer.

Oi Oi Savaloy, It is possible to buy tickets in advance. They are no cheaper. There is also a very good iPhone app which enables you to download the tickets to your phone.
I'd ask for a refund on ski carriage and pack your walking boots.

another option - to avoid the 2 changes of train/bus - is to take the alpine express coach (www.alpinexpress.com) it goes every 2 hrs or so from geneva / verbier main parking. Cost is around 70 CHF / person each way, i think

If you have children get a kinder pass from the train station in Geneva it will cost you 20 swiss francs, is valid for a year and allows children to travel free on all swiss puplic transport. If no children ignore this.

The Swiss timetables are designed to interlink. The Geneva Airport station is (as the name suggests!) right there in the airport.
Each connection has minimum waiting time, and in the unlikely event of the train running late the St Bernard Express will wait for it and so will the Postbus at Le Chable Station.
red 27's oh so helpful version is true if you get a late train, and that taxi is not cheap.
Otherwise let the train (and postbus) take the strain.

I have been sent some info by a helpful snowhead that gave deails of the Swiss Travel Assoc in central London.
Spoke to them today and have bought return train ticket for £85.
Good value and hopefully a pleasant journey

Oi Oi Savaloy, Congratulations on your succesful purchase. Had you followed the advice above you would have bought the same ticket for the same trains for less than £80
