Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

For info, we're probably looking to book a people carrier.

I used Avis last time I went there and the price was decent enough. After a recent experience, I'd think twice about using them again - Hertz are usually a pretty similar price.

TwistBarbie, you may want to caheck that the hire co have people carriers available at the airport, IME you would have to hire a non-standard vehicle from the city centre. You'll probably need to give your chosen hirer plenty of notice.

I have used HolidayAutos.co.uk in the past - they've been good.

It changes. You need to check em all. Although Hoiday autos is generally pretty good. I find budget are often cheapest and are a subsid of avis. Watch out for addons, local surcharges often doubling the cost of hire. CDW insurance also handy as I found out at New Year. 850 euro excess refunded by insurance company after some rather silly car park antics. No names, no pack drill.

I've used avis in the past and have always had a good experience & price from them.

That was until we hired a car from them at turin last winter. The base price, as ever was good, however, when I came to return the car the final bill was far far higher than expected. What they don't tell you at the time of booking are the charges that are payable locally i.e airport fees and local VAT (also added on to the price of CDW) etc.

Just make sure that you know exactly how much you are going to pay in total when comparing the various companies.

TwistBarbie, Try Nova car hire (an Irish based company) - they tend to have individually branded country specific car hire sites. We have used them for South Africa, Spain, Italy and the UK over the past few years and usually got the best quote with no problems.

This is their Italian website: http://www.rentacar-europe.com/italy/index.htm

Have also used holiday autos occassionally, but only got a better price out of them when they were actually advertising specials.

Google 'nova car hire' for their other country websites - and global website I think?

David Murdoch, Time for me to be an @***hole, Avis Europe is actually a totally different company to Avis Inc and under very different ownership. IMHO this explains what I consider shoddy operations , pricing etc. within Europe ( and some other parts of the World like China). Budget and Avis inc are both owned by Cendant while Budget in Europe is managed by Avis Europe - Confused yet Smile Does anyone actually care ? rolling eyes

Helen Beaumont, I suspect you know this, but some of these sites do not display all the companies nor do they display sometimes real rates ( screen scraping, various 'cacheing' techniques and sometimes commercial 'interest' rolling eyes ) and some of the sites they recommend (e.g. Opodo) are actually only front ends to genuine suppliers -

If anyone ever finds anything cheaper than HA for weekly hire then you have done really well !

Agree with doogo, never beaten ebookers. Often considerably cheaper than the same firm they quote you for!
