Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Most confusing piste map...when up looks down and down looks up?

I'll start with Passo Tonale. What is happening in the bottom left? Looks like you are going down from the pictures of the mountains, but the peak heights say that you are going up.

I had to look twice and then it was only at the third looking that I got what you were meaning. I presume you mean the run between Malga Valbiolo and Ospizio S. Bartolomeo. Yes, a bit confusing. Probably best just to go and ski it Laughing

The map seems to be an excerpt from a larger one. Maybe it would be clearer if all the map were there, e.g. you could see where piste 6 goes off to.

Sauze d'Oulx, we skied a fairly flat blue cat track type run that went across the mountain and met some people skiing the same run in the opposite direction Puzzled

I always imagined the Fens were flat. So is that how you ski too Puzzled

IIRC the 3 Valleys one is confusing because conventionally north is at the top of the map.

That's just a cr*p map of Toenail's runs. There's a clearer one here: http://www.skiresort.info/ski-resort/passo-tonalepresena-glacier-ponte-di-legno-temu/trail-map/ (click "toggle full page").

The flat Sauze run is between the lifts at the top of Sauze, and the lift up from Sestriere. Sometimes there are snowmobiles towing skiers between the two lift stations: can get very interesting when they pass! There used to be a single-seater chair running between these points as well, but I think it's now been removed (at least it's no longer shown on the skiresort.info map.

Have to agree the Sauze (Via Lattea) pistemap is distinctly average. Online versions are particularly low resolution! But then the same could be said for most multi valley pistemaps as its quite difficult to represent 3d in 2d.

This one's actually pretty decent resolution: http://www.vialattea.it/get/330/843/ski%20map.pdf . There look to have been a fair few changes since I was last there about 5 years ago.

I find them all pretty anoying. I'd much rather have a proper map with contours on than the pictorial things.

That flat run across the top of Sauze was best avoided when I was there unless you realy wanted the exercise. The ancient single chair was so slow that people fell asleep on it and would pass in the other direction snoring, but still better than poling along. I heard they anounced closing it but there'd been a petition to keep it running. A shame if it has gone.
