Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Dad & Daughter looking for Chalet with other kids!

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I'm a single Dad (early 40's) with a (nearly) 6 year old daughter and looking to take her on her a first ski trip. I've done lots of skiing.
Would ideally like to join up with other families that have children of a similar age & ability.
Do not have a preference to the Country/Resort, but would really like to be in a Chalet.
Dates are flexible, but it cant be between 9th January - 13th Febuary. Christmas or New Year would be good or any time in March.

Peter2301, similar predicament in that my wife doesn't ski. I've taken my now 10 year old daughter with Ski Esprit for 6 years. Ski Esprit are a family ski company and they do a number of single parent room deals in some of their chalets and chalet hotels. Discounts for a 6 year old at that time of year for say La Rosiere should be 100% if they have rooms left. We're off again on 8th jan to Meribel! Pro's lots of kids and they deal with them really well, cons food isn't as good as some other chalet companies I have stayed with.

Peter2301, have a look at The Family Ski company and Ski Famillie.

Surely you're most likely to meet up with other anglophone school age kids by going during the English school holidays? And if you go during termtime, don't you incur the wrath of the headteacher? Of course, the biggest downsides to half term are cost and crowds (both variable, depending on where, and cost on how, you go).

Worth Googling, because I am sure that some companies specialise (at least in half term week) in this type of arrangement.

Yellow Pyranha, from experience of looking at the brochures you can almost double the cost to from 2nd week in Jan to half-term, also less rooms will be available for the OP as the holiday companies will want full occupancy for half term - this is my issues for 2013 as Hannah goes up to high school in September and I will be loath to take her out.

PS This is the first year that the school have made a fuss about taking her out in term time

Have a look at http://www.mangoholidays.co.uk/ It helps enormously to be in a whole group of single parents and kids from single parent families. The Romania trip is great as the group occupies pretty much the whole hotel which is fairly small but you might find the skiing a bit limited (great instruction though, by the end of her first week my 6 year old who had only had a few snowdome lessons before was happily cruising down the reds)

Ski-esprit would be a good choice try the special offers here http://www.espritski.com/offers/ usually plenty of good offers for 1 parent =1 child

these 2 leap out as good offers currently

23/12/2011 Chalet Alpenblume in Obergurgl, 1 adult & 1 child £1299!
30/12/2011 Chalet Begonia (Ferme d'Elisa Chalets) in La Rosière, 1 adult & 1 child £999!

some of the xmas week bookings are 9 days ( for 7 ) as there are weeks when the holidays fall in odd places - they are wel worth a look

Crystal have some availability and if you go on the 2nd Jan and do the 6 instead of 7 you will be back in time, and that week is always cheapest
as its first week back at school for most - crystal care seems OK especially once you get past 5years of Age

good luck - have a great time

Yes, I understand, when we lived in England, my stepson's schooling rather restricted us to half term.

We're in a similar situation to you, now, with our son going up to High School in August - except that in Perthshire, we don't even get a week off in February, only 2 or 3 "occasional" days. His primary teachers have been unconcerned about the annual absence (2 weeks in Canada next February), although we do normally try to incorporate the occasional days.

Peter2301, I'm a single mum, 40's going to http://www.mountainsunltd.com/chalet/albergo-frohsinn at Christmas with me 5 year old son. I am biased because I work for Mountainsun (obviously) but that's not the only reason i will rave about this place - it is truely an amazing place to be at Christmas. On xmas night after dinner Father Xmas comes down the run outside on a sledge with massive sack of pressies and the kids totally love it! It's a lot of fun for all! It's really sociable, chalet is on the piste with gondola just below with play area at the top. The ski school is excellent! and have a brilliant race day at the end of the week. It's a really sociable atmosphere and a great introduction for a child's first ski trip - it being a magical area! A fab restaurant near the play area where you meet the kids for ski school, a good area for them to play downstairs, etc. Christmas days this year is 8 days 18th - 26th Dec. Contact Jude for details : mail@mountainsunltd.com

(we also offer a creche week here in March where kids are looked after 9-5 every day including getting them ready and taken to, picked up from ski school)

Peter2301, If you don't mind a 12 hr coach trip through the night then Snowcoach could be another option, I've done this a few times with the daughter cos I'm super lazy, get on the coach in the UK then just switch off! no waiting around for baggage, transfers blah blah! take your gear for free x 2 sets "shhh!" and just chill out until you arrive at the hotel the next morning, obviously not a chalet but 3/4 board, you are encouraged to mingle with other's by the way it's all set up so kids make friends pretty quickly, sometimes on the journey down. They have lots of deals for single parents, kids discounts, regularly they do free kids ski hire and passes etc. If you fancy it you can also join in with other guests and staff on the free ski touring that takes place most days while your little one spends the morning in ski school!

Val Cenis would be my pick for ease of getting around all the villages in the resort with little ones & its pretty quiet, the staff are great too, the other thing is they do short and longer break options.

Hi Peter,

I am a chalet host in a private chalet in Les Gets. We are a very family oriented resort, with loads of potentail for beginner skiers. There is events on every week in town to entertain the children also!

We are just over an hour from Geneva airport, and have the facilities to do your transfer should you wish. We have great contacts within both the english and french ski schools to book group or private lessons, and we are more than happy to ski with you and your daughter an impart the odd hint and tip! We often have other family groups staying too. We have availability the week beginning 21st Jan and the chalet price would be around £425 for you and £325 for your little girl.

Our website is www.chaletlefrene.yolasite.com if you want to have a wee look at how we roll, and my email is princess.zara@live.com if you would like a quote or any other information...

Good Luck,

Zara
