Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ideas... skiing for me and a mate over Christmas period

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
There are two of us looking to go skiing over Christmas period. Would be good to go somewhere, where it is fairly lively and can meet up with other skiers ie. somewhere that isn’t family orientated. Been looking at the resort ‘Tignes’. Can anyone recommend or suggest where would be good… ie. resort or maybe a good company to book with that caters for this type of market….? or does anyone have any places free...?

Hi Racken, welcome to Snowheads. When you say the "Christmas period" what exactly do you mean? 24th December week will be expensive for example. What are your time and budgetry constraints? If you are looking for something lively I wouldn't have thought Tignes would work - or most other French resorts. I'd be thinking Austria or Italy.

Hi Racken, and welcome to Snowheads - you've found the right place to ask your Q

Zell am Zee in Austria might be a fun place for Xmas - it is certainly lively enough, or Souze D'oulx in Italy although can be a bit chavvy? If this really is your first year skiing then some instruction may be helpful so Tignes UCPA would be a good choice - it is in the Val Claret area of Tignes which is busy enough and has great access for the slopes, or try the Chamonix UCPA - it is right in the centre of town. UCPA includes equipment hire, ski pass, instruction / guiding for skiers or boarders and they'll also give you lunch every day so you are not spending your beer money on overpriced spag bol up the mountain. Snowheads get £10 off UCPA holidays with www.Action-Outdoors.co.uk too - just use the discount code SP2010 when you book online.

What's your age range / budget / balance between ski and social? We can probably help you hone in on the best deal/resort for you if we knew a bit more.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

St Anton, Verbier, and Val D'Isere spring to mind. I personally wouldn't go to Tignes for what you want (even though I shall be there at the end of this month). Souless place, unless it has improved radically from when I was there last, quite a few years ago. It does have great skiing, though.

Racken, Val d'Isere over Tignes any day of the week. For a holiday it's no more expensive than Tignes unless you pimp it on the hotels & restaurants (the point being at least you have the choice to pimp it if you want to). The village/town is also an infinitely more pleasant place to be than Tignes.

Racken with your other half 25 years younger than you, forget the skiing and make the most of other sports whilst you are still able. You can ski into your 80s when other distractions have long since departed.

Racken, Welcome to Snowheads.
Have a look at the website in my tagline. If you like what we offer get in touch. We will be doing a christmas dinner on 25th. Have others booked in already.
Got rooms available up to 28th December, when the New Year crowd arrive.
One guest is going to be doing snowshoe walks some days. Nina & I may well join her, you would be welcome too.
Close to town with lots of bars for socialising. Well within your budget.

DallyPaul, Hi, thanks for info, but we are really looking for a catered chalet this time, if we get booked into Morizne, if it`s ok with you, would like to come and see your place and maybe think about staying another time, many thanks again, Racken

For liveliness post-3pm and a great town it's hard to beat St Anton, which has a few catered chalets and a sociable-ish Mark Warner I believe. Great bars on and off the mountain. It's OK rather than brill for beginner skiers but the ski school has a good reputation and there'd always be a beginner class going. Perhaps better for starting off - as well as having lively apres - are Saalbach and Mayrhofen.

Got to disagree with this, we've just bagged a bargain for that week for our family of 4. Catered chalet in 3V (inc childcare for youngest), transfers & flights from Liverpool to Geneva all for £2k.......... wink
