Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Les Arcs - when do lifts open??

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Im sure this is asked every year when there is lack of snow, but when is the average start date for ski season in Les Arcs. Im not going till Feb 4th, and each year I get anxious when there is no snow come November. I take it it will snow a decent amount (enough to stay skiing in Feb) by feb???!??!?!??
sorry if this post pee's people off, but Im starting to look fwd to the season now and see the reports from people hitting the slopes in early December onwards, so just want a nice year of pure snow (without the worry)!!
thanks

Jon Ford, there aren't many resorts where you can hit the slopes in early December - just a few specialist places, particularly the ones with access to glacier skiing. Quite a few will start to open a few lifts at weekends, if there's enough snow, but most don't get going properly till the week before Christmas.

thanks pam w. As long as this doesnt look to be a poor year (I think this every year!!) - at least its a h8gh resort, so there should be something! Im waiting for that 1 year where there is fresh snow fall every night! It happened once in Lapland, but it was bl00dy freezing during the day!

Cheers for update Boredsurfing, I was there at 08.30 - no wonder nothing was moving! snowHead

Jon Ford, To answer your question sensibly high level resorts from December 10th, lower levels December 17th.
Vanoise Express should be 17th as well although that date may be put back if there isn't enough snow to ski to/from it. (on both sides!)

9.15 typically. On our side of the VE we have a more leisurely start.

Les Arcs normally opens some lifts by about 10 December. Even for the hyper-paranoid is really is too early to start worrying about February snow wink

And do not get excited because it has snowed in November. It will have almost certainly melted before December. I never look at snow forecasts etc before early December having learnt years ago that it is a complete waste of time.

Jon Ford, There is a season thread for Les Arcs which has the answer to this and many other questions. Please go there so we don't all end up posting the same thing again and again. Thanks. snowHead
