Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ok reaching out to my fellow snow heads for some help and advice. I currently use a pair of the Leki W/C race gloves but due to the fact that the run all over everything I have decided to replace them any suggestons?

These are the two current options but if any one has any other suggestions please feel free to let me know!

Fattes13, Hestra
Army Leather Heli Ski Glove

They are brilliant, I also have the ones same model with the some of the fingers joined together (cant recall what they are called), both very warm and highly recommended. Thats a good price you've got there from LD.

Plus 1 from me - I picked up the Heli last year and have only used them - never too warm and as yet also never too cold! and the wrist thingys (I think Hestra call them "handcuffs" Shocked ) are brilliant when you need to take your gloves off for any reason.

Still never used the balm with the leather bits - how often do people use it? and would any old type of nikwax be as good?

Samerberg Sue, the balm stuff is very good, £4 for a small tub offv Amazon, I use it 2 times a season, just keeps the leather waterproof I think. Dont know about Nikwax.

+1 on the arm strap doofers, just the thing on chair lifts!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I have a few pairs of Hestra (inc the ones above in green) and they are great. I use the balm about once a month or so per pair to keep them in tip top condition. Nixwax is not the job for hestras at all!

Fattes13, Another vote for the Hestra heli's. I've done a season in mine now and they are awesome. As Samerberg Sue, said, never too warm and never too cold.

I was a bit skint when i bought them so spent forever shopping around. Best price i found was here http://www.specialistsocks.co.uk/m57/Hestra/p5496/Hestra_Army_Leather_Heli_Ski_Alpine_Pro_Glove/product_info.html

We have just had a delivery of the helis today, and in new colours too! I am sitting here loading them up now so keep an eye on the site. We always do the black model, but now carry some colours, and the 3 Finger model is really taking off, as is the slightly narrower womens specific model.

Heli gloves and mitts here: http://www.edgeandwax.co.uk/NewSearchRes.aspx?strName=leather%25heli

Awesome gloves, and best sellers every year. Think all of the staff have some. And dont forget the snowheads discount and supersnowheads discount wink

Samerberg Sue, I put the balm on about every fortnight for the first two months of use as they seemed to dry out pretty quickly, but now haven't put it on since last March and they're still lovely and supple. Think it jsut takes a little while for the leather to absorb the balm properly.

Just a note on the balm, use it, don't use Nikwax! We suggest after every holiday to put your gloves on, and put less than a pea size on one palm, and then rub your hands together with the gloves on. Make sure to get it between the fingers if they are gloves. Dont panic if it gets on the fabric, it wont do much harm, just look a little untidy until it dries a little. One tub of this wonder stuff will last for years and is worth every penny. It keeps the leather supple and water resistant and also helps it to resist mould. You cant over treat a Hestra glove but you can certainly under treat it!

Another tip, when you get a new set with the sachet of balm, although the gloves do arrive treated (to keep them looking good whilst waiting to be sold) we recommend treating as per above to build up the protection before you hit the slopes.

Hope this helps

I like the Vertical Cut Hestras. I prefer them to the Heliski Alpine as they are just a bit neater as they go underneath the cuff of my jacket. The Vertical Cut is a very sturdy glove, probably got 30+ weeks out of my current pair.

rob@rar, Are the Vertical Cuts a heavier duty take on the ski cross? Love my SKs for the same neatness and fitting under my jacket cuff.
