Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

mountainaddict,

You have to call flight information/reservations/tickets, not bagage center. The number is 0871 945 9747.

I phoned Lufthansa last night and a very helpful German lady (maybe I impressed her with my Deutschglish, snigger) has booked free ski carriage for me for both of my flights. Apparently it is a Lufthansa Cityline flight, with fairly small Embraer planes (aren't they something strange and Brazilian? My aviation knowledge is rather out of date) it is advisable to book ahead to guarantee carriage.

Kruisler, shame I didn't spot that number last night, I ended up phoning Germany, ooops!

Dear All,

As the OP, I'm just back from Munich - and delighted to report that the skis went free Smile .

After Lufthansa flight nos., confirmation, boarding passes and bag drop at the Lufthansa desk, the only time we became aware of the flights being anything to do with BMI, was when we crossed the air bridge onto the plane. How do I edit my OP?? I'd like to change the heading, as per earlier suggestions but can't seem to see an obvious 'edit' link Puzzled .....

Anyway, good time had by all - sunny weather and fairly decent snow conditions at Stubai and Hintertux glaciers. Even managed some off piste powder turns one morning Very Happy

...I'm being thick here.... Embarassed But how do I do that Puzzled My ancient PC sometimes doesn't display web pages properly - so wondering if that applies here. Is there a button saying 'edit' or something? When I click on the original post and try to amend it, nothing happens..... rolling eyes

Oh!! You mean the one that, on my PC, is (or was!) covered by an advert featuring Chemmy Alcott?

Found it. Changed it. Ta!

Hmmm, Lufthansa have just changed my Easter flight - was a reasonable departure time with quick connection to Salzburg. The connecting flight is now cancelled. I was going to rearrange even though it was inconvenient and as I was talking to them mentioned the skis - no problem madam, free with Lufthansa but you'll have to ring Tyrolean Airways to book the skis onto the connecting flight and they will charge you.

I've cancelled and booked a similarly inconvenient and expensive flight from Leeds Bradford but at least we'lll all get to Salzburg at the same time (family already booked)

OK first time I took my skis on Lufthansa...

At Frankfurt the guy said oh that'll be €120, to which I said "No it's free - I called the reservation hotline and they said so".
Then he said "Oh that'll be €50 for the 2nd bag", to which I said "No that's only ski boots and helmet, which is part of the ski package".
Then he said "Oh that's fine".

At Geneva, it's Swissport agents. The lady there had to read up on the rules, and said that I was the first person she'd seen checking in skis after the rules changed (June this year?). She didn't believe I'd been skiing. I did warn her that everyone else in the queue had been on the same ski trip Smile

So... my advice... phone that hotline to book skis+boots+helmet, and then at the airport, say you've got 1 main piece of checked baggage, plus a pair of skis+boots. Don't say you've got 2 bags to check plus a pair of skis!
Take a printout of the rules on the webpage.

Oddly, my return flight was LH, but online checkin bumped me to Swiss, and I got a Swiss mobile boarding barcode with a LH flight no. The plane and staff were LH. So I have no idea whether the GVA baggage drop lady treated it as a LH or Swiss flight,

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

I had the same issue with Swiss (same airline group) last year - came on a Bmi plane with a Swiss ticket. Had a very helpful email from Swiss customer service to say that it was a Swiss flight and there fore Swiss baggage rules applied.

In meribel, having flown swiss lhr to gva lady on web drop wasn't that convinced when I rocked up with three bags but after checking with a supervisor, all ok.

I've booked a Cathay flight but part of it is operated by BA. My Cathay Marco Polo status gives me 15kgs of extra baggage allowance that I'm sure BA will object to... Anyway I've done the same, emailed Cathay and asked for confirmation of my allowance, which i will print and take with me to BA check in at GVA.

Called LH today to book 4 sets of ski's on our Manchester - Munich flight in January and had no problems at all. They confirmed carriage was free and that we are travelling with BMI.

Yaa.. flew with skis from Munich to Heathrow, took 20 seconds to check skis in.. No questions asked. I really rate Lufthansa. Best thing is.. return was cheaper than a flight with easyjet!

I have just done a great Skivolution week in Kaprun (lots of sno on glacier) with Lufthansa Mcr to Munich. Allowance is 23 Kg and free skis plus laptop as well as 8Kg cabin bag. Ticket had Lufthansa starred as carrier in both directions but in practice the return was with BMI. I had split the stuff about equal 16 kg and 16 Kg. I expected a barney but got no problems.

I have taken a booking from someone who is looking to book LH Manchester Munich. But he says there is a max length of sk 156cms. That seems a tad small isnt it?
Anone else had a problem with ski length

They took my 181cm skis without questioning their dimensions.

Think there's another more recent LH thread somewhere, with the latest information.
