Poster: A snowHead
|
Last year my thigh muscles got torn quite badly in a slip on some ice whilst flying my model planes.
The muscles have healed fine and I had no trouble skiing this year. However if I run or lift a heavy load it feels like I am tearing the muscles again. I am thinking that this is due to scar tissue stopping the muscle fibres sliding over each other smoothly.
Can anyone confirm this and suggest any remedy? Or is it back to the Physio again and if so what will they do?

Michael B, I'd suggest the physio, I smashed my femur skiing and seem to recall something similiar happening, stretching, ultra sound etc seemed to help

kitenski, I've got a referral to the physio. Don't know when I'll get to see them. Looking at various sites deep massage seems to be the order until I get to the Physio. Another job for Mrs B.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Michael B, I can only comment about treatment for torn calf muscle, but am sure theory is the same, scar tissue rebuilds itself like the dried spaghetti in the bottom of a pan, a mess of fibres. Massage in the appropriate fashion will help to strengthen the fibres by straightening them out making them more resistant to repetitive injury.

Sports massage will help remodel the scar tissue. You can find reputable ones on http://www.thesma.org/
I wouldn't get your wife to massage your legs to break down scar tissue unless she has had some training - she could be causing you more damage!
