Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Been to both last season and would return to both.
For piste, def Ischgl - there are some great really long runs - and Ischgl might be a bit less crowded on main pistes; St Anton resort runs get very busy at end of day. At St Anton, majority of people stay on main bits of mountain (Galzig etc) so it's worth exploring further afield (esp Rendl, always less crowded).
In Ischgl there's reasonable near-piste off-piste that doesn't get as tracked out as St Anton. Off-piste in St Anton is exceptional, but to get the best of it join a group by going to Powder Club (Arlberg ski school) or Piste to Powder, a British outfit.
Stacks of Germans at both; far fewer Brits in Ischgl, and more eastern Euros; more Brits and Scandis in St Anton.
Apres at both is lively. Ischgl's afternoon session (eg Trofana Alm, slightly bling-er version of Mooserwirt) is in town rather than on the mountain like St Anton's Mooserwirt, which has a daily afternoon party a short ski from town. SA's nearby Krazy Kangaruh was full of drunken teenage Brits on my last milisecond of a visit.

If you go to St Anton in April, try this

OR - if you're going in low season, why not go to both? They're only 45mins apart and some weeks you can stitch two long weekends together without paying too dearly for not booking an entire week.

St Anton for me, but only because the apres is better and the village has a nicer feel to it. The on piste skiing is better in Ishcgl though.

margaret, When are you going and where are you staying?
Biggest apres bar is the Trofana on the western side of town. Some premier league football clubs get smaller crowds. Kitlzoch, Schatzi bar, Nikkis Stadl and the Nevada Alm are on the eastern side, all close to each other and are all very good.
If you want a night off the serious stuff try the Kiwi bar by the church. Despite its name there's nothing antipodean about it. Its owned by a local and is a lovely place for a quiet drink.
