Mate of mine sent this link to me - it's a really good film that gives you an idea of the La Grave vibe, though a wee bit OTT at times, but beautifully produced, well worth a watch, and works well in full screen mode as its HD.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

In the second video he has image stabilization turned on which causes the big jumps and hops. He should try filming with a monopod or tripod and keep the goddam camera still.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Weathercam, ...yes it is indeed a damn fine film - there are two other episodes (kashmir and canada) both with the same high production values - but to stop another outbreak of 'best film' posts and contributing to global proliferation of necessary memory, check out the previous 'best ski and board films' - my vote for top film is still 'a skiers journey' since it evokes the feeling of arriving in the Alps, but the cool award goes to Candide Kamera - check the previous thread...
davidof, I was being sarcastic about the production values of my video, (the second one) - it was only my pocket Panasonic Lumix - no view finder - no tripods - just whip the camera out of the pocket to get a quick shot - in fact when we were in the Girose central, Per our guide would not let us stop to film - only managed that still before we went in!
And valais2, my post was not about "look at yet another ski movie" - but that this is a good movie that captures the essence of what La Grave is all about!
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

can you turn the OIS off ? It will stop the jumps as the OIS system tries to fight against your micro-pans.
Out of the two I only watched your movie btw, I prefer the more gonzo look of the place that you capture than some slacker American on his own personal journey of discovery up his own XXXX. The picture of the couloir hooks you more than a few pidgeons circling in the sky.
davidof, the slacker Canadian may be upset by that. If you want a real clip that's up its own harris see episode 3, no doubt beautifully shot but only about 30 secs of skiing in a 10 minute clip. I think the whole spiritual journey schtick is getting well overplayed.
Then you can post your own questions or snow reports...

ooops!

Not all that OTT - the start was La Voute - a classic, then briefly (I think) the top of Rectiline. The last one with the long traverse I've not done, but perhaps one day a guide will think I'm up to it. I must say I like that film, though it is shorter than I remembered.
Weathercam, I think some people didn't see your embarrassed icon, or perhaps having the two side by side was too provocative - but I was quite impressed by the standard of skiing etc, taking it in relation to other Snowheads' home movies.
You'll get to see more forums and be part of the best ski club on the net.

Weathercam, ...you read the tone of my email slightly wrongly - like this vid a lot...it's just that it's been posted a few times before...like your own vid a lot...particularly the samba overdub and the big dramatic panoramic shot of her royal highness the Mej at the end...a good couple of days by the feel of it....

Snowball By OTT I was referring to how davidof summed it up fairly well "some slacker American on his own personal journey of discovery"
Think we're all suffering from misunderstanding / misinterpretations of posts
Most of those routes with the rapel were off Girosse, down to Orsiere / Couloir de Voute - the final traverse was going over to Triffides I think.
These are some very old pics of me doing the rapels when I was a gnarly snowboard dude some 11 years ago!!!!!
Now I much prefer to have two edges under me when doing steeps!
And what about the great helmets we'd just started to wear back then
Looks like we'd just got off our scooters - no vents etc - when you got down towards the bottom where it can get tough, especially on a snowboard on the traverses talk about a bucket of sweat on your head
snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

Still so long as they avoid time lapse clouds and Swedish skiers, who cares?
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

The rappel is La Voute then then i think they mix shots from Trifide and Le Pan de Redeau?
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

davidof, how do you know about my next project
Full Moon December 10th - trying to work flights out at the moment, Easy Jet first flights in to Grenoble are 10th Dec
Ten to One the weather will be foul - though that could well mean snow - not a lot of use to me though
You know it makes sense.

snowball, think it's around then - not that it really affects me - see my signature at the bottom!!
I'm doing the website for probably the best hotel in La Grave and hopefully by then I'll be able to hike up some hills / cycle (have use of bikes out there) - was there in the summer cycling.

Cycling was excellent last winter. Give us a PM and I'll go up l'Alpe d'Huez with you .
