Poster: A snowHead

Hey everyone,
Can anyone give me a very simple explanation of the difference between the Atomic Nomad ski range?
Thanks,

same ski.... different widths. some have metal in them and are labelled "ti". from memory, i think the smoke came out after the blackeye and crimson though. released around 2008? others may correct that though.
have skied the crimson and it was great.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Cool, thanks. It seems you can get all three in either TI or non TI.
I guess I'm just trying to get a simplistic (beginner, intermediate, expert) explanation on them. At the moment I'm thinking the Blackeye for my week in January (from the info on the Atomic website).

really its a blackeye or Crimson choice. Smoke is an early intermediate ski. Blackeye covers intermediate through to advasnced 65-75% piste time. Beyond advanced really crimson is the choice. Crimson favors the aggressive skier, probably >80kg, and works better in powdery/offpiste conditiond upwards. For me the Blackeye is the 'pick' as its most versatile. As for TI or not probably doesn't make a huge difference, But the TI graphics are better.

167. Consider longer if you're gonna spend much time offpiste/want to make big fast carves.

Cheers everyone! Think I might rent them for a week in January and see how I go. If I like them I'll buy them!

I had a similar discussion with myself last season - I ended up buying the non-ti blackeyes. Tried them out in Les Arcs in March and loved them, much better in the soft stuff than the rental skis, which are usually thin piste skis (now just need to get all the scuffs repaired from the lack of snow)
The Ti version is basically stiffer so won't wobble as much at high speed, but probably less versatile over the bumps.
I'm 147lbs and 5'8'' I ended up getting the 160's, which seem fine to me, however, my fiancee's dad got the 167 and they go a bit quicker!

I skied 174 cm Nomad Ti Blackeye next year (myself is 182cm, 83kg, expert) and I'd like to tell, that it's definitely more off-piste ski! It sure skis on piste, but if you like agressive fast carving - it's not Nomad. It's greate off-pste with different conditions, but on pist - it's quite simple cruiser, without emotions.
Just my 5 cents.

164cm was available on the first Gen of Blackeye - Pre Rocker. 167CM should work ok for you on the current rocker skis. Go with 167cm.

That is only true of the non-Ti Smoke, which is a lower end ski that doesn't have any metal layers, step-down sidewall, or Arc technology.
The Ti Smoke has Arc, step-down-sidewall, and a layer of Titanium over the wood and is stiffer and for more advanced skiers than the non-Ti Blackeye. The skill-range charts are online and show this.
So the progression is this:
Smoke (no Arc, no step), then Blackeye (Arc and step), then Ti Smoke (Arc and step), then Ti Blackeye (Arc and step), then Crimson (Arc and step).

...and if you're interested, I have a pair of Nomad Smoke ti for sale, length 164 as luck would have it (I would agree with poster above - far more than an 'early intermediate ski')
Good condition (bought 2015 and seen two weeks and three weekends of snow), yours for around the cost of a week's hire...
