Anyone ever used Action Outdoors? Their deals appear to be too good to be true. I do accept that they are exclusive of travel costs.

I used them many years ago to go to the UCPA at Tignes twice, Val D'Isere, La Plagne 1800 and Val Thorens. In most cases you could ski to the door.
Action Outdoors are the UK agents for the UCPA. The UCPA is run similar to youth hostels, with accommodation typically for 4-6 people in a room and they tend to be very well organised with good tuition and up to date equipment provided. The food is very good quality and plentiful, just as well if you plan to ski for 5-6 hrs a day.
If you don't mind sharing a room with a few others and being part of a large hostel type environment then I'd certainly recommend them. They have centres all over the French Alps and can offer specialised tuition such as off piste at some if not all centres.
There is an official age limit of 40 but many here have managed to visit smaller centres while over 40.

some centres have double rooms (e.g. Flaine).
Action Outdoors prices do include coach travel, don't they? (otherwise, no earthly reason not to book direct with UCPA).
Though my daughter, with whom I drove through the eurotunnel check in today, was reminiscing about the Action Outdoors coach driver who did a runner - chucked his bag out, jumped down after it and literally ran away, when the coach was in the queue waiting to board.
Then the French coach which met them the other side (as the UK one couldn't continue without two drivers) broke down twice on the way to Flaine and they were about 12 hours late arriving.
I dare say that was an unusual occurrence, though. they had a super room in the Flaine centre though, with their own balcony, and said the week was very good value.

Hiya - my friends run Action-Outdoors and they are the UK partner of UCPA. The deal with Action-Outdoors is that they include the Saturday night option in their prices and can organise your coach travel or airport transfers for you. You are also more likely to get 'roomed' with other English speakers if getting on with your roomies is important to you and french or swedish doesn't come naturally at 8am. This year they were able to book peak weeks before they were available on the French website too which was a bonus.
The prices don't include coach travel but this can be added when booking online easily enough(as can airport transfers), but do include lift pass, equipment, ski tuition / guiding and 3 meals per day to avoid the cost of mountain restaurant prices. If you book and use the discount code SP2010 you will also get £10 off each booking. Thankfully they don't use the same coach company that had the disappearing driver any more - they now use SnowExpress which is far more reliable and geared up for alpine travel.
If you are at the Ski show in Birmingham, they will be there. One of the team will also be at the PSB for a day or so doing the ski test with some very sick dps skis.
I've travelled with them loads and even though I'm now officially too old, will probably still do the odd UCPA week if I'm allowed - they are especially good value during school hols as their prices aren't affected by the need to accommodate kids during peak weeks (age range is 18-40s only) and are great for solo travellers as the centres are very friendly places and you will always meet friends in your ski group and your room (between 2-6 depending on the centre).
The accommodation at UCPA is basic - some centres are better than others - but if you want some advice on which centre will suit your needs and level of skiing / boarding, give them a buzz. I would say that if you want comfort over nightlife, choose Flaine, Val D'Isere is my favourite for a great balance between snow and apres, La Plagne best for ski-in ski-out. Chamonix is very popular and right in the middle of town so very handy for nightlife and Serre Che has got its own swimming pool

Hi Guys
Consider a big upgrade in more ways than one!
I got several from this forum interested in joining my social holiday to Les Menuires no 25 Feb, Masses of new powder and the glacier guaranteed skiing, its awesome!
I now have over 30 guests in the group and free Salsa teaching as an option, or the usual Apres Ski for the others.
I have half the hotel allocation, so Joe public are taking up the remaining space. Shared rooms food wine flights the lot from £499.
I have been doing these group holidays for 17 years now, so I make sure everyone feels included socially.
Why not call me for a chat, nothing lost, nothing gained as they say!

I think I'd prefer free expert off-piste skiing teaching. Actually.

Oops sorry
I did not mean to offend. Does this mean that some snow heads get notified of every post on "Solo Skiers v Groups - Organising Trips"
I do not understand why they would want to see every post?

You know it makes sense.

I don't understand why you think every holiday enquiry in the past 6 months is an opportunity for you to advertise for free particularly as almost no-one has mentioned dancing (or the type of people who are into dancing) being an essential part of their holiday.
We get it - you're in a hole with your overcomitment on capacity. In which case I recommend anyone interested haggles hard with you or that maybe you speak to admin about how to offer it more formally to sHs at a too good to resist price.

Would it be possible to remove the post about the dance holiday from this thread about UPCA/Action Outdoors? I was a little confused at first thinking Action Outdoors were offering some kind of dance holiday!

Agreed, cut and pasting the same old stuff is dreary to say the least. And Fatbob is right you have to like salsa for a start and I would suggest that it will be more than a couple of tracks per evening, it could be loud and it could get tiresome, dare i say it could ruin your holiday! I speak as someone who danced salsa for 3 years.Think carefully before you sign up.

Spinout, I think my concern would be not so much for the constant throb of Latin rythmns (which I could always counteract with a mask of RATM on my mp3) but more for the sort of weird crowd that Salsa singles sometimes seem to be (we're totally here just for the dancing, in no way is anyone looking to hook-up honest guv....plus associated gossip, bitchiness etc).
