Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi all,

My fiancé and I are planning a trip next season (2012), possibly December or January 2013.

Who has been before and what's it like?
We will have a fairly decent budget to play with so accomodation recommendations are very welcome.

Thanks in Advance!

Yes. It's cold and snowy (in Winter), mostly.

Do you want to narrow down your requirements a bit?

meandrew, lol yeah........but a quick precis.........

Massive vertical and varied terrain, loads of snow, kicking nightlife cum party town, eateries, shopping, loads of accommodation in the base areas, everyone should do it at least once, etc etc...............

But..........Can be busy, noisy and expensive. Can rain a fair bit and being atypical in general of other Canadian areas, not everyone's cup of tea. Almost mythical status open to debate.

Plenty of comfortable accommodation choices (almost) slopeside, but in Dec/Jan can be cold and seem very dark.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

As always, JMO.

Have done Whistler for the last 2 years and returning in March for 15 nights so can probably give you some information.

Send me a PM with specific questions and I'll give you what I can.

From when I went, it was alright but didn't see it at it's legendary best (snow was crap that year - excuse to return). IMHO it felt a bit McSki Resort for my liking - very slick, very practiced, just a wee bit soulless - a bit like a shopping mall crashed onto a mountain town... Mountain is great though.

Dare say it's a damn sight more expensive now too thankyou exchange rate (something like C$2.something to the £ when I was there last)

Have done it twice, once in March - rained everyday for two weeks Sad Then in January again for two weeks to compare since the first time was a bad one. Rained again but only long enough to turn snow to slush then froze for another week Shocked Due to lowish altitude and maritime climate. 2nd biggest vert. in North America though along with other statistics wink

The mountains good but so are other places. Disney dont do ski resorts yet, but if they did.....

I dont have any need to return, ever. The money i'd spend going back could be used in much better, less hyped places, and has since. You may have a fab time and wish you well, I think its a place people should visit, if only once. I'd be more than happy to wish everyone to go to Whistler leaving other areas empty - oh they are compared to Whistler already Madeye-Smiley Did I mention it gets busy too. Exchange rate wont help either and it is expensive there compared to other Canadian resorts.

The bus service around the resort is good though Very Happy

Agree with Whistler he must have had the same two weeks rain I had, never again, Canada is too near the Arctic Circle. Can I suggest Vail- Beaver Creek- Copper, as an alternative, Vail even looks Austrian and has longer pitch runs for America and fewer gamblers

Go to San Francisco instead of LA. LA is truly horrible & the ONLY acceptable excuses to go there are: you're making a 'movie' or you have a child demanding to see Mickey! The only less appealing city I have ever visited is...nope, there aren't any. Plus SF is closer.

Went to Whistler couples of years ago. Personally, I think it is over-rated. The skiing is good, but the town is too commercial, too expensive.

Tahoe in California is better, Squaw and Heavenly are the top 2 resorts in Tahoe. Alternatively, go to Salt Lake City, real powder.

Personally I wouldn't bother making a special trip over to go to Tahoe, particularly not heavenly. Squaw is better and the north end of the lake is more pleasant (also Kirkwood but that's right down past the south end), though I found Sierra and northstar were pretty dull.
San Fransisco is nice though.

prick_with_sticks, If you're not set on LA, fly into San Francisco. LA, in my humble opinion, is a festering hole.
