Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Poles planted perpendicular to the slope.

I've just been going through the notes I made after having some lessons earlier this year.

In the Upper Body section I've written...

Rotation at hip sockets not waist.
Abdomen held tight to prevent breaking forward at the waist.
Plant and punch pole action.
Poles planted perpendicular to the slope.

It all makes sense apart from Poles planted perpendicular to the slope - can any kind soul work out why I wrote that and what it's all about?

Ta very much!

Oceanic, I think you might mean when you plant the pole it is at a 90 degree angle to the slope you are going down. This and planting your pole well forward should bring your weight forward .

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

riverman, Those were my thoughts too, but being no expert didn't want to mislead anyone! Laughing

plant the pole down the fall line from your boot. Can't go wrong. Flat terrain = closer to ur tips. Steep terrain = much more perpendicular to ur skis. Perpendicular to the slope doesn't make sense; perpendicular to the skis does (but only when the terrain gets very steep). hope that helps

It's a natural sport, not mathematics.
