Off to Japan in feb , and looking at all the pow videos , blue mirror seems to be the lens of choice for deep powder tree skiing , is this the way to go ??

I think that any good quality bright sun lense will work well, you want sharp contrast between shade and sunlit snow. I think that more hi price premium lenses show up in the vids because a) they look cool, and b) the goggle firms do provide sponsorship and will again provide top of the range kit to riders.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Scarpa, I am sure you're right , and I will probably struggle to look cool whilst doing a fair bit of tree hugging

Neilski, when I was there in Feb 10 we only had one blue sky day in two weeks 'cause it never stopped snowing () so you really want a good flat light lense (Oakley Hi-Yellow is the best IMO). Bright light lenses are poor in trees as when you hit a heavily shaded patch you suddenly loose all contrast. One of our group lost a pair of goggles in the snow in a big stack so you need a back-up pair in your pack.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Do you mean bluebird pow day (sun after the storm) or low viz during the storm?

I agree with spyderjon. I was also there in Jan 10 and i used a Oakley Hi yellow the whole time. The light is mega flat and you tend to miss bumps etc but the pow makes up for it. Also it can be a bit of a pain for taking photos. Also, bring some clear lenses for night skiing!!

Ditto spyderjon, And matt_Bradley, hi yellow has to be in the bag. Fire iridium for the blue bird and clear fir night skiing would have been great.

clarky999, I mean a lens best suited for skiing in the trees and dealing with the variable shade /light
