Mr. Drake's Spoon reminds me of how motocross bikes go round corners - he's just skidding really, isn't he? Does look fun though!

Looks like it, in as much as it's possible to skid within 3D snow. Although the tight turn he makes at about 25s seems to be steered more by the shape of the ski rather than big power slides that some of the other turns seem to be.

i think the idea of the spoon design (with a convex base) is that you can go sideways more easily in deep snow
a bit niche for me, but maybe, when i organise my mid-life crisis heli-blow-out, i will change my mind!

i think it's a question of how loose they feel in the snow. Spatulas = a lot looser than anything else at the time. Spoon = even looser

I'm not sure I really want a ski that loose tbh, even in deep snow it's still fun to be able to make a big 'locked in' Alaska style power-carve. I wonder if the Spoon will allow loading up into a carve then slarving out again, or whether it's just too loose...

He is a good skier though, so would a lesser mortal get the same enjoyment from these ?

I'd bet most reasonable skiers could get them sliding with enough speed in the right snow. I wonder how much is down to the hull and how much to the pintail as there's almost no ski effective edge behind the binding. Very cool though.

Ah never mind, answered my own question. Watched it again and saw that there is not much ski behind the binding, so am assuming that the rear shape allows the turn while the tips stay out of the snow.

Zero-G, also if the tail sinks (less surface area) by default the tips rise (out the snow).

Yeah, but what are they like on piste 
Those spoons look like they'd excel in only one type of snow... fine if you can get it.
