Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Where in Austria from Munich

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Flying to Munich on Saturday Jan 7th, arriving mid afternoon & planning a week in Austria. Would much prefer to get the train so would appreciate recomendations for a resort that is easy to reach by rail, has good nighlife and a decent size ski area which isn't too fragmented - so not asking for much!!
Our group is a mix of skiiers and snowboarders, all reasonably competent and used to spending a week on the red runs in France but having a change this year.
Thanks in advance! rolling eyes

Söll in Ski Welt - easy to reach on the train from Munich airport (S-Bahn to Ostbahnhof then catch the next rain to Kufstein. From Kufstein take a bus or taxi to Söll.

Kitzbühel/Kirchberg would also work quite easily.

Zillertal is a bit longer on the train as are most of the more famous Tirol areas. change at Jenbach for the Mayrhofen trains

You can also get to the Ski Amade areas quite easily by train (St Johann im Pongau has a mainline train station). Flachau is reachable but you need to change trains at Bischofshofen to switch to the Ennstal line.

In western Austria you can access St Anton by train from Munich but it is not as straightforward a journey as it is from Zurich.

To be honest most resorts in Tirol and Salzburgerland are easily reachable by train and public transport. And taxis from the valley stations to the resorts are not that expensive either.

So many choices. As well as Sue's options, Fiss and Ischgl are easily reachable too, if you're prepared to use a bus on one leg.

Just to expand on Samerberg Sue's excellent reply, the S-Bahn line to Ostbahnhof from the airport is the S8

true... by train...

Munich Airport to Munich HBF
Then Munich HBF to Salzburg/Bischofshofen/Radstadt (depending on day/time you can sometimes luck-out and get a direct train from Salzburg to Radstadt)
Then get picked up and whizzed to my gaff Very Happy

Or... Munich Airport to Munich HBF
Munich HBF to Salzburg
Then get picked up and whizzed to my gaff Toofy Grin

There is no train station in Flachau, the closest station is either Eben or Altenmarkt but they do not have very regular services.
The Gasteins are reachable by train via Bischofshofen along with Zell am See.

has to be the nearest/easiest/fastest option and great for a mixed group. Best night skiing too. Pick hotel right up by the lifts like the Tulpe or Hexenalm and job's a good 'un.

Hmmm - there's even a direct train from here to Radstadt/Schladming etc., via Munich+Salzburg. And another one to Badgastein etc. Might have to check that out.
