Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi,
I am planning on going skiing for my 30th birthday next April. Unfortunatly as my gf is a teacher we can only go in either February half term or during the easter holidays but because my birthday is in early April we were hoping to go then. Resorts we would like to go to are Whistler & Aspen although we arent sure what the snow conditions will be like at these times. Has anyone been skiing in America/Canada around this time? or does anyone have any knowledge of the conditions in April?
Many thanks
Paul

Did Breckenridge in April a couple of times - still great skiing and genererally very quiet (and a lot warmer than December!) - oh and a great micro brewery to toast your birthday

The obvious Alpine place is Val Thorens where the Snowheads End of Season Bash (EOSB) would normally be (but I don't see it among the bashes in Snow Events - is it happening this year?). This is the highest Alpine resort.

Hi Paul,
We've been in Whistler in April for the last 2 years and there's been LOADS of snow. The runs back to resort get very sugary in the afternoon but you can download from either mountain (Whistler or Blackcomb) via gondola which most do. The snow at the top of both mountains is plentiful.
PM me if you want more specific information on Whistler.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I have done some of my best skiing this time of year, including a great few days in late April at Aspen 2 years ago, but never been to Whistler. In Colorado, bases have usually built up nicely with fresh snow possible. Conditions change faster this time of year (for better and worse)- The only real drawback is that the south facing slopes can melt off pretty quickly with the sun higher in the sky and you can encounter some slushy conditions later in the day as well as firm conditions when there is a refreeze overnight with no new snow. That said, I plan to be out on the slopes again in April!

Most resorts should be absolutely fine.

Whistler typically closes in June, Blackcomb closes earlier but then the glacier re-opens in July... so in other words April is fine. You might find slush low down, but at Whistler that can happen at any time:-)
