Poster: A snowHead

Hi Snowheads
I am organising our group ski holiday yet again and have run into bit of a problem which I'm hoping you may be able to help with. Part of my group fly in from Bristol (the rest of us Manchester), and would land at a different time, therefore I'm looking at a transfer from Geneva to Montchavin for 3 people. This is proving to be very expensive, around €180 - €190 each return.
They are looking into the possibilty of driving from Bristol, but does anybody know of a way to transfer from Geneva airport to Montchavin at a reasonable cost?
Thanks for your help as always

Try www.ski4funtransfers.co.uk they are snowHeads and offer snowHeads discount. I used them a couple of times last season and they are excellent.

jan,
Rather than drive from Bristol you could look at car hire from Geneva airport. You can rent an economy size car that should be suitable for 3 people from £165 for the week from the French side of Geneva airport, use a comparison site such as www.carrentals.com to find the best rates. You will have extras to pay such as snow chains, CDW excess insurance, Swiss vignette, petrol and tolls.
If you search the snowheads forum you will find a load of information about hiring cars from Geneva

Hi ,
Try posting your dates and the number of people on the forum on www.thecoolbus.co.uk and see if they can hook up with another group?
The other option is to consider public transport but it is a bit faffy for Montchavin. www.altibus.com (click the UK flag) have direct buses from Geneva to Bourg St Maurice. They cost around €100 per person return. A taxi from Bourg St Maurice to Montchavin costs around €50 each way. If you are travelling with a tour operator or chalet company they might be able to pick you up from Bourg free of charge.
Between them this brings the price down a bit but as skichampcouk, says the cheapest option might actually work out to be car hire.
Happy holidays!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I've just costed out a trip next month and with car hire coming in at £180/£200 (without extras to pay such as snow chains, CDW excess insurance, Swiss vignette, petrol and tolls.) plus the flights it's considerably cheaper with 4 of us to drive and using Tesco points for a free Tunnel crossing.

I second www.ski4funtransfers.co.uk - I'm in the process of booking with them for a return trip from Geneva to Montchavin and have been offered a very good price for a party of 4.

Thanks for all your repsonses. I have passed your wisdom on. At the moment they are looking at picking up a car from geneva. If this doesn't work I'll look into the option of coolbus nearer the time (end jan).
I looked at ski4funtransfers but the y were more expensive than the quote I have from Ski Extras, I can see it may be worth ringing them to see what they can do,
Thanks again !

Hey, we went to la plagne last year and travelled with Snowdrop Transfers. Pretty good and not too expensive. www.snowdroptransfers.com

For 3 of you I'd definitely hire a car. It's an easy drive made shorter with the new motorway / dual carriageway and it gives you flexibility to ski elsewhere for a day on your whole area lift pass. Mind you La Plagne and Les Arcs are pretty extensive anyway.

yep I would agree with Ski4Fun transfers, or maybe cost effective to hire a car as its an off peak week

Unfortunately Ski4Fun weren't able to help as we are travelling on a saturday and dicounts don't apply. After costing everything up, they have decided to go with a transfer which worked out cheaper than a hire car for 3 of them. The best quote I got was ski Extras so that's now booked. Thanks for all your suggestions.
