Poster: A snowHead

Just been reading the thread about Pocket Rockets.
I'm 5.9" and 65kg. I bought these Salomon Aeromax 2 165's because they were massively discounted in Decathlon. Didn't know about "bendiness" or anything at the time since I had only just started skiing. Used them for first time in French Pyrenees early this year and could do fairly steep Blues but this was on good snow. Skiers from all the pistes had to use a narrow track down to the lifts and this very quickly became compacted and all too soon icey - I had big trouble controlling my speed even doing snow plough. I've booked some lessons to learn short turns but I'm not sure whether I should use my own skis or those provided at the centre, which I assume will be easier to use. Now that I've started using my own, I would prefer to continue but not if learning is going to be too difficult.
What do you think ? all advice welcome.
Geoff

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

shelmerdine, Welcome to Snowheads
That's a good all-round piste ski , and I would defiantly stay on your own skis for your lessons, are you on a dry slope or in a fridge ??

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

In a fridge. Whilst it's true I'm only a learner, these skiis seem pretty fast to me - to the extent that when doing parellel linked turns, I have to go across the slope almost at right angles to the fall line. This means that I have to do a very sharp, almost 180 degree turn to get round at the end. Any advice ?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

The aeromax are used by lots of instructors when teaching because they a good all round ski and easy to turn. Stick with them and stick with the lessons and it won't be long until you can control the speed.

You are doing the right thing with the lessons, they will refine your edging control to enable you to control your speed in all sized turns, the natural reaction for new skiers when trying to control speed is to- jam the edges in, this used incorrectly can actually have the reverse effect and make you accelerate! welcome to snowheads
