In Verbier the Mayentzet and Combe 1 have been taken out and will be combined into a new debrayable six person lift of identical design to Les Attelas (James Blunt). Works progressing well with all the pylon bases in and the base and top stations under construction. The base station will also feature a ticket office so those living high up (Hameau/Little Sweden) or those who can't be bothered to queue at Medran can hop on a bus to Carrefour and buy a ticket at Mayentzet.
More impressive is extensive renovation of snow making with lots more going in and the existing hose pipes being replaced with drain pipes. From Gentianes to La Chaux and Mayentzet to Medran. Great investment from Televerbier.

The Mont Blanc chairlift in Les Arcs is being upgraded (from a slow 4 to a fast 6) and extended (up to the Deux Tetes area). It runs out of Arc 1600 and the new lift will provide an alternative route from the village to the rest of the domain, easing the queue that can build up at the Cachette chair (which is also good for people who come up from Bourg on the funicular). Part of this work is to create a new section of blue piste from the Belvedere piste to link with the top of the Mont Blanc piste. This will provide a new, and very lovely, return route to Arc 1600 from the 2000 bowl. Work seemed to be going well earlier this month when I visited Les Arcs.

One of the most slow and uncomfortable chairs in the Espace Diamant is being upgraded to a fast detachable (the Covetan, the link back from Crest Voland to Les Saisies) though several slow and uncomfortable ones remain in the Arly Valley. The long-planned upgrading of the Mont Rond chair in Notre Dame is still held up by environmental wrangling (hard to see why, when it just replaces an existing chair on the same route) but there's a lot of new snowmaking going in all over. But at least there is a faster (if rather steep and long) draglift which provides an alternative route.

Two other developments in Austria:
The lower gondola at Lofer is being updated (to an 8-seater). There are loads of photos on the German alpinforum.com.
In the Kitzbühel area, instead of updating the Silberstube chairlift, the old chairlift (G1 Resterhöhe) and the nearby T-bar (G3 Moseralm) at Pass Thurn are being replaced by a 6-seater chairlift. There are some photos of the work in progress here.

Two new lifts in the Portes du Soleil. This from http://www.yodelmagazine.com/new-this-winter.html:

In CHAMPERY the Grand-Conche chair lift and the Grand-Conche drag lift have been replaced by a new high speed 6 man chairlift. The chair and drag combined used to carry 1900 people per hour but the new lift carries 3000 people per hour over a distance of 3000m. The height gain on this new chair lift is 450m and 13,000,000 CHF has been spent on it's development!
In CHATEL the old 2 man Rochassons chairlift out of Plaine Dranse to the top of the Lindarets bowl has been replaced by another new high speed 6 man chairlift. The old 2 man used to carry 1200 people an hour at a speed of 2 - 3 meters per second. The new lift will carry 3000 people per hour at a speed of 5 meters per second - that is quick!!! The total height gain of the lift is 290 metres and over 5.5 million euros have been spent on the development. The new Rochassons lift also has a brand new semi-automatic safety bar system. As soon as you sit on it the bar begins to lower automatically and it locks itself in place once passengers lean on the bar or on the foot rests. The bar then re-opens itself at the top of the life. Very Clever!

And in Avoriaz:
Quote: |
The New Prodains Gondola
Construction has already begun on the new ‘3 S’ cable car, which will replace the existing Prodains gondola lift. It will have 12 cabins, each with a capacity of 35 and will be capable of carrying between 2000 and 2400 people per hour, compared to current lift capacity of 400 per hour. The top terminal in Avoriaz will be buried so that skiers can access the piste more easily. The new cable car will open in December 2012.

Looks like a fair bit of new stuff going in around the Dolomites this summer. Anyone know what that one in Arabba is about?
Seems too that at long last that bottleneck heading out of Selve to Danterc. is being addressed...

New 6 seater chairlift for Monts Rosset in Saint Gervais, replaces old slow 3 seater that links to the rather lovely La Princesse area of Megeve. Should be useful especially in half tem, relieving the pressure on the Le Bettex gondola which can resemble an all-black rolling maul @ ski school meet / pick up time! Link below, not much info but I'm assuming next winter means 2011/12.

harrisontherabbit, we took the old 2 man Rochassons chairlift out of Plaine Dranse to the top of the Lindarets bowl on Sunday 4th September - absolutely tipping down with rain and going very, very slowly. Babette at the Vieux Chalet where we had enjoyed lots of cups of coffee and Le Figaro told us that the work was due to start Monday 5th - one or two holes have been dug already and lots of metalwork piled up at the bottom.

a Polar Peak lift is interesting but can see that it will be limited in use after almost every storm. It will be very interesting to see what official lines they open off it - can't see Lizzard headwall ever being officially in play.

Looks to me like the link between Boe and Portovescovo might actually be going ahead. Listed as 339m, 4 seater fixed chair, construction date 2012.

No, not sure how it'll open up Lizard so much, just more of Currie, and maybe make access onto the ridge that separates Currie/Lizard, the bit that feeds Corner Pocket, Tom's etc etc, easier, especially on a board.
I'd have thought they'd have been better off opening up Fish Bowl, sure I heard something to that effect couple years back, but guess they must have their reasons.

Heard their were issues that anyone going out of bounds then would be trespassing on Island Lake Lodge tenure which they get upset about so ILL have some sort of restraining order against any lift in Fish.

Pamski, The Rochassons lift is truly tedious, isn't it? Being the only realistic route back to Morzine from Chatel and Morgins, I've lost count of the number of times I've been caught on it as the summer afternoon thunderstorms start to set in.....

I was mountain biking there a couple of weeks ago, and noticed foundations and a few pylons going in, but it looked like a long way from being ready. Pretty sure it was the one mentioned above, but I might be wrong. It looks very different green and rocky!

harrisontherabbit, Pamski, don't want to increase the traffic flow too much into the Plaine Dranse / Linga sector though - it's some of the best skiing in PdS imho. At least the bus ride to Chatel ought to stop the PdS loop ending up like the Sella Ronda 2 way motorway.
harrisontherabbit, from Morgins, there's also the route back via Champoussin, but the last time I did that it was a really long slow lift too. Concerningly slow when you're in a rush to get last lift back over from Les Crosets. Think I've only used Rossachons once in 6 trips... always ended up doing a full PdS loop. Must get back there some time (on skis and/or mtb).

Indeed there is, but you've got to really like your pedalling, especially if you're on a DH bike in full body armour. And that lift in Champoussin isn't always open. And if it isn't, or if you miss the last lift up to Mossettes (or both), it's one helluva climb. (Been there, done that.... )

harrisontherabbit, from Champoussin to Crosets, on a bike, surely you would just cycle along the road? Can't be more than three or four miles, and at that level, it's not too steep, there is a long uphill out of Champoussin, but nothing like climbing the mountain...!
