We've just booked car hire for 8 days (from Geneva) for our Boxing Day trip to Val Thorens. A good deal at £170.

We rented a car from carhire3000 last year, it was fantastic. A nice drive, the roads are pleasant and stopped on the way for a load of booze.

If you rent a car and drive it to VT, you need to check where you are going to park it. Not quite as simple as it may seem - you can't just park in the street in a lot of places.

For Montana you will want to use the P2 car park. Book your ticket online in advance to secure your space and it will also be quicker too.
You will be able to park your car outside your accommodation for unpacking but it will be very busy with cars. If you can carry the bags/skis park car first (P2 - turn right after second tunnel) and carry up under the piste (another little tunnel), it might just be quicker!

Restaurant opposite Village Montana - Le Petit Ferme is class. Go there!! Stayed at Village Montana in Feb 2011 with the same deal as you (full 3V lift pass) and was very impressed. We had a great stay. Google Ben's Bus for airport transfers.

Why not take the overnight train instead and get 8 days skiing for 7 nights in resort. It is a bit more expensive than the plane but think of it as 2 more nights accommodation as well. Then the transfer is just the local bus up the hill from Moutier.
