Poster: A snowHead
|
Looking at resports for a short trip early next Feb (before the school hols) & an option has popped up in Vaujany.
Having a look at the piste map it seems that the only way to the snow is by one of two long gondolas/cablecars.
Can anyone help with som elocal knowledge about transfers from Geneva, village life and those long lifts? The skiing looks to be more than enough (& high enough) for my 3rd yr skiing son & me.
Look forward to hearing your info.
Thanks in advance

a very good time to go to France - school hols start 13 Feb. I've never been but Vaujany has been written about a lot in some of the ski articles - not super convenient, I guess. Might get something closer to the snow, up in Alpe d'Huez itself?

If you aren't fixated about being able to ski back to your chalet, Vaujany is great. The long lifts either take you up to the Montfrais sector of the Alpe d'Huez which is very nice in itself or right into the heart of the ADH area (the two stage cable car up to the Dom des Rousses). For me, starting from Vaujany is the best way to access the ADH area
The lifts are pretty much queue free unless you turn up at exactly the time all the ski school groups set off
Village life is pretty sleepy. There are a few apres ski bars but they are very low key. One has a nice sunny terrace though with a great view of the ski area. There are a few fairly simple restaurants and a very good leisure centre with pool (including water slides), sauna, hammam and jacuzzi

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

...I agree. You've now hit all 3 of my favourite satellite ski areascardweg, There's a very nice mountain restaurant in vaujany too - Les Oreilles.

Vaujany is brilliant, for all the reasons stated. I love it.

Just to add, not sure what your plan is re getting from Geneva. I have always driven and it is easy enough - autoroute to Grenoble then decent A-road until the final pull up to Vaujany
organising yourself by public transport might be a bit more complicated. there are buses from Grenoble train station. you can get a train from Geneva Eaux Vives (?sp) to Grenoble via Annecy IIRC

Thanks for the info guys, having looked at the transfer again, vaujany's fallen down the wishlist a bit.
I'm narrowing my focus to les houches v morillon. See my other thread for more comment.

thanks ray, but unfortunately we're tied to flying to geneva. That's why i've moved on to consider the more northern resorts.

cardweg, no probs, for a quick splash and dash I would recommend Chalet Camomille in Les Gets - quick transfer from Geneva and it comes highly recommended

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.
