Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

New Zealand ski slopes not looking so good after all

After a promising start, the unusually warm weather in New Zealand is disrupting the begining of the ski season. It was to be Coronet Peak’s launch party this weekend but, unfortunately, they have had to postpone it. Better snowmaking temperatures are expected next week, and the resort only needs temperatures of –2 degrees centigrade with low humidity for 72 hours to open the whole area with purely man-made snow....Mt Hutt is due to open next weekend (11th June). However, although snow was made there last weekend, temperatures are currently too warm to continue. The area needs 4 to 5 days of low temperatures to cover most of the pistes. It appears there is little snow on other ski fields in New Zealand too.

Yes is looking a bit sad at present. Rain forecast for the weekend but then cooling and some light snow possible through most of next week. We just need it to cool down enough for the snow makers to get to work. May was by far the warmest on record for all of New Zealand but the long range forecast for the winter is for a return to average temperatures for this part of the country but above average for the more northern regions. Lets hope the are wrong and it will get really cold. Puzzled
