Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Anyone with knowledge of the Vorarlberg (Bregenzerwald ) area of Austria?

The write up in WTSSG sounds quite good.

We have been visiting Austria for the last few years and I like the idea of the quiter resorts.

Add to this the good snow reports and the place could work.

Anyone been therein the last year or two?

I have been to the montafon many times. Its fantastic except for the nightlife.

Any reason for the Montafon and not the Bregenzerwald? Is one better than the other? We could do either.

Nightlife not an issue but are all looking for quiet off piste

I have only been to the Montafon. The off piste is good, and there are a number of resorts in the valley so plenty to go at. We stay in B&Bs cheaply and out of season and sometimes go on spec. Its usually quiet, obviously avoiding xmas and school hols. I like the little on hill eating places with traditional food. The best bit is no English hooligans to worry about. A car is needed to get around and make the most of it. There is 200 km+ piste to go at. I am not sure if any of the main TOs go there, we have all ways booked direct and gone in the car.

I was looking on Montafon area for my next DIY trip. Silvretta Nova looks very good and you get a few smaller places as bonus nearby. (Golm, Gargellen). Grasjoch gondola I think will be build this year.
