Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Lets face it...if any of us were offered a free holiday in our "lesser favoured resort" then we'd take it!! I've never stayed in Murren, and can't ever see me chosing too, but I really missed the opportunity to ski the Schilthorn when we went in Jan this year.

D G Orf, Yes, once and I've also luged down the path - that was scary!!!

Chris Brookes, What road? Evidently new since I was last there. We actually skied through the forest (and I remember it was very steep and the trees were very close together, but I was dead proud to be taken along!

brian, I've been to both and still think the Eiger Nordwand is the most impressive mountain I've ever seen. It's MEAN, it tries to kill you, and it positively emanates evil. The Matterhorn is pretty in contrast! Don;t get the same feeling off it at all.

easiski, I call it more of a road than a footpath due to its width now plus seeing the occassional vehicle on it in the summer. In the summer it can lead you to Isenfluh. It must have changed since you were last on it because it isn't steep at all now. No doubt they have changed it to make it safer for all to use.

Chris Brookes, the road was always there, well a track was, but I think now they use it as the base for the piste down, wheras a number of years ago it was either not marked as a piste or not pisted at all.

There are other routes that have changed for instance the Bumps area below Wengenalp used to have a nice mogul field but it's now pisted so often that the moguls just don't build up, or that there was once a nice black run down the Mannlichen but now they piste across almost the whole width of the slope making the runs easier and reducing the difficulty down to a Red.

Mind you it's not all bad this progress lark, they have got rid of the Lauberhorn and Mannlichen drag lifts and I understand they now piste down from Piz Gloria and the Cannonen Rohr so no 6ft high moguls to hit in bad weather wink

D G Orf, I agree as when i was young my instructor ' Hans Otto' took me down it and i always remember how narrow it was back in the days !! The moguls on the Schilthorn do still appear but now more or a slight bump,if you get my meaning .

You mean not something that looks like a ski jump Laughing I can remember skiing down from Piz Gloria to Murren probably age 9, all I could say about the trip down was that I couldn't think of enough swear words at the time to adaquately describe it Blush Embarassed

D G Orf, I now think i've already told you... snowHead anyway.Just incase i will make it brief !

We were on our 4 day of our honeymoon in Murren (of course,no beach honeymoon for me)it was very icy and managed to both fell off the Schilgrat T-bar just before the top(having done it so many times before). My wife at the time fell to the side but i kept on sliding down until i hit another couple. At speed i went into there skis which did stop me but give me 16 external and 5 internal stitches around my knee. I spent the rest of the honeymoon seating on the sun terrace at the Jungfrau and watching Faulty Towers Confused
