Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Helen Rennie has skied Scotland for the 24th consecutive month this October, here she is on the Ptarmigan traverse today (8th October) skiing the fresh snow that fell earlier this week:

Well done Helen snowHead

According to MWIS more snow could fall on Monday above about 950m - bring it on! Toofy Grin

^ yup, snow forecast at Cairngorm too although not quite as much: http://www.snow-forecast.com/resorts/Cairngorm/6day/top

Snow Forecast tends to change a lot though as and when new charts come out so it's a little unpredictable, MWIS is forecasting snow too though so fingers crossed we are in for a decent snow event. What we could do with at this stage is some brief freeze thaw (maybe a little rain just to wet up the snow) and then this fall to freeze up setting up a base for further accumulations. Looks like we might have a see saw in temps later in the week too so could be good. Of course if the temps suddenly shoot up again all the good will be melted away but here's hoping as we get closer to November, certainly not looking bad at the moment.

Only downer is it's looking like wet and milder weather into early next week at least so we'll see the snow cover retreating but perhaps hints of colder again from Tuesday/Wednesday onwards?

^Group on the Walk at the Top heading back for a Hot Choc in the Ptarmigan!

^Setting off down the Ciste Fairway on route to the M2.

Hoofing, skinning and sliding back down on CairnGorm Mountain today. Going up the skis went on at the top of the Zig Zags and stayed on till a 150yards short of the Summit AWS. Coming back down some nice winter snow for some autumn turns in the Marquis Well and down the Ptarmigan Traverse. After a bowl of soup it was onwards for a run down the Ciste Fairway, then in the face of the approaching weather front, with the wind getting up and the snow softening lower down, a final run down the full length of the M2 to the top of the Daylodge Poma. Some combat skiing the last couple of hundred yards!

Ciste Fairway is fairly well loaded up, indeed the tow has certainly been open with a good deal less snow, but the weather is reminding us it's still only mid autumn with mild, wild and wet conditions for the next few days. Never the less, promising to see recurring incursions of polar and polar maritime air. snowHead

Avast Snowheads. Does Anyone know much about ski lessons at Glenshee/ Aviemore?
My new girlfriend has been press-ganged into learning to ski this year. Evil or Very Mad
She has done a few lessons at our nearest fridge but I was thinking about taking her up for a couple of dec/jan weekends pre a holiday later in the year. Now I usually get a few weekends at Glenshee a year but havent had cause to use the ski school in the past 15 years. Anyone have any recommendations/tips about either ski school? Especially as the likelihood of last minute adult beginner lessons on a weekend?
Also anyone have any b'nb recommendations in aviemore? I have always stayed at the Spittal of Glenshee and been very happy. Heres to a good winter!!

ADubya, would book in advance rather on the day and pay for privates (if you can). Learning at Glenshee isn't ideal. Reckon you'd be better off at Cairngorm.

Strax, steady, its still only October. Ramping is fun and we've had a few early starts the last few years and I would hope and be reasonably confident that we'll get some action again this year before Christmas, but that's still early, as it is most places

Pretty much guaranteed to dump over the next few days due to the 'Gorm announcing:

"Mtn Railway and Ptarmigan Building will be closed on 31st, 1st & 2nd for annual maintenance. Cas Bar and Mtn Shop will be open."
