I can't understand racers being friends with each other - how can you spend Christmas with someone you are in competition against?

typical girls. "She used to be my best friend but now she says she's your best friend and you promised me you wouldn't let her be your best friend 'cos she's supposed to be my best friend and anyway she said horrible things about me in the playground/on Facebook/on telly".

I'll bet the men don't tell everyone they're bestest friends and spend Christmas together, then fall out and go on about not going to each other's weddings.

Must say this fall out has been extremely disappointing. With two grow women who have been friends for such a long time, two atheletic women who have at the top of their game, you just don't expect this sort of behaviour. Lindsey / Maria if you are reading this I appeal top both of you to get together and sort this out like grownups. Think about your supporters and what you owe to them, the ski circus could certainly do with something to liven it up and what better than a full on catfight anyway?

Glad to see that international athletes with I'm guessing "media advisors" still have as little class as half the population, and feel the need to share everything on Facebook, really how very very tacky.

I have to say from reading the reports at the time, that it was the behaviour of Ms Vonn at the cancelling of the last race that seemed to start the downward slide in this friendship and as far as I have read in the newspapers here in Germany, Riesch has not said a negative thing about Vonn.
Vonn basically did a "José Mourinho" at the last race when it was cancelled at the last minute, handing Riesch the championship. The comments she made were childish and unprofessional. At the time I wondered if it were her or her sponsors/advisors making the complaints. Had the points been the other way around I'm sure she would have agreed that the cancellation was the "safest thing to do". She did not reply to the invitations to either the civil wedding or to the church wedding in Kitz the following week.
I've always liked Vonn and admired her more European outlook including her being fluent in German and having bought a base in Austria. However, her behaviour since her accident at Hinterreit, especially at the Worlds, has been more and more bizarre. It does appear that she is retreating into the old "them (Europeans) and US (Americans)" attitude that has soured relations with one or two other American racers over time. Maybe she is starting to prepare for her retirement, and regrets the extra sponsorship that being the overall champ would have bought her back home in the USA.
The comments on Facebook, if they were written by her, are just childish and sad. Her loss, not the racing world's and certainly not Riesch's. She has kept remarkably quiet on the whole business apart from being saddened that the friendship has gone. According to the interviews I've read and heard from Riesch, the invitations were always open and never withdrawn. As the church wedding was in Kitzbühel it wasn't as if Vonn had nowhere to stay as she has a house in Kirchberg.

I've got a mate who had a big bike crash about 3 years ago, he has never been the same since, the doctors said that there was no brain damage but as they admitted there is still a huge amount about the human brain that is still a mystery.
Maybe Lindsey banged her head in the fall a bit harder than everyone thought?

Agree! You can be friends with your competition, but you cannot be best friends!
