Having had two great years in Stuben, we are wondering wether similiar hotels exist in other high Austrian resorts?
We are looking at Easter 2012, requirements:
Ski or walk in/out - the Stuben hotel ran a private minibus to/from the slopes which were 2 mins away
Swimming pool for the kids
Wellness, sauna, steam room etc for the ladies
Early kids tea available (6pmish) for the little 'uns.
High skiing (Ischgl seems to fit this bill!)
cheers,
Greg

kitenski, might want to look at Hotel Solaria http://www.solaria.at/ it has a (smallish) pool and larger wellness area. Inghams have it on their books, although I've not booked through Inghams.

Cannot help with Ischgl although I researched it pretty throroughly before pick Stuben this year. Reasons for not doing Ischgl were that the hotels with pools were pricey, and various threads suggested that skiing back to the town in April, whilst likely to be possible, might not be for the feint hearted. Have you thought of/tried Obergurgl ? village at 1900m means ski in ski out possible from a lot of hotels. Went last year on 10 April and there were no snow issues. New pass arrangements I think mean that you can ski Solden under the same pass at that time of year I think. Can give some views on hotels if required.

Blastfromthepast, yes please, open to ideas, although as you said my first enquiry for Ischgl has come out very expensive! Will try nozawaonsen, s suggestion...
I think another requirement is for the hotel to NOT be served by a main stream UK tour operator

Ah there you go! Second of moffatross' photos shows the Elizabeth on the right behind the cable car station. Fliana is to the left behind trees. Normally it is snowier than that.
First photo big hotel on right is Romantica with it's champagne bar.

kitenski,
Not exactly what you want and possibly no good depending on which bits you want for you and which for the kids but
Wirlerhof up at Galtur is next to the Galtur lifts which have good north facing skiing up to a reasonable height.
It is about 10-15 minutes up the road from Ischgl which has good parking not too far from the lifts.
Never stayed here but probably a fair bit cheaper than Ischgl hotels.

kitenski, I've stayed in the Feriengluck which is excellent but doesn't sound right for you as there's no pool and it's B&B...
Ischgl is a brilliant resort, so well worth going to if you can find the right place

kitenski, think most of Obergurgl served by mainstream UK tour operators although most people I've met there were DIY. Some places with pools are:
Crystal -great for ski in ski out as it's attached to a Gondela. Sensational spa. Quite modern. Good family rooms in old part of the hotel. Not overrun by Brits when we were there
Edelweiss & Gurgl -Right in centre of village by two lifts. Sounds a good place but likely but served by many tour ops
Alpina and bergwelt -next to each other both a short ski to lifts. Stayed in the Annex to the Bergwelt which saved a few pounds. Really atmospheric and great spa
Gottard Zeit also a short ski to the lifts -heard nice reports of this

Ktenski, Edelweiss in Obergurgl, fits most of your requirements, apart from one, it is served by British TOs and full of Brits during school hols. It's location is ideal as 1 min walk to ski school meeting points and also ski in/walk out...again less than 1 min walk to gondola/chairlift. It also has a swimming pool and spa and serves children's menu with early sitting.

kitenski, For the past 2 years I've taken the family to kappl. Great wee resort - probably a bit bigger than stuben, with more piste skiing too (ignoring the links to St Anton etc that stuben has). Problem with kappl is that there's no hotels with pools. If that's not an issue you should look at the gasthof alpenfrieden which is right on the piste and superb value with tasty food, or the auhof at the foot of the runs and right beside gondola - have not stayed there but have had many a happy apres ski there.
I would definitely recommend the area as an alternative to arlberg. Have never managed it up to galtur but that's only because kappl and ischgl have more than satisfied our needs.
If your heart was set on ischgl then I'd try to stay closer to the middle gondola as it's been much quieter than the other two in my experience.
Kappl might be closed though if you're going late season - south facing.

You know it makes sense.

kitenski,
There are indeed busses to Ischgl. A couple of points to be aware of if considering Galtur.
The actual skiing is at Wirl rather than Galtur itself and if looking for ski/ in ski out or close to it. Hotels up at Wirl should generally be fine, (I believe there are another couple, possibly with swimming pools) Galtur itself is a very short bus ride from the skiing.
There is a lift pass for the valley, a lift pass for galtur and a lift pass for Ischgl /Samnaun. If you want to ski predominantly in Ischgl you have to buy the valley pass if staying outwith Ischgl, the local lift pass is only available to those with an Ischgl/Mathon guest card.
I have skied at Galtur several times though not late season a personal opinion is that it would be ideal for younger children late season. It is a relatively small area though it has reasonable variety, probably a little larger than the Stuben area by itself, it has never been crowded on my trips which have been high season (xmas/NY and Feb) my main complaint at this time is that it is very cold due to its position at the north and east facing spot at the top of the valley. A bonus at Easter. I have not really explored the off piste much but there certainly seems to be a bit but I expect more experienced skiers would want to visit the Ischgl skiing a bit.
I have stayed in Kappl several times which is further down the valley and has a really good childrens set up but I would hesitate to recommend it for an Easter trip as it is predominantly south facing.

boabski, thanks, I was going to ask where you went to next.
The kids love the pool, especially if skiing is rained off as happened this year so I think that is a necessity...
T Bar, quote back from Wirlerhof € 3.934,00 for 2 adults 2 children for 7 nights incl. half board, ouch!!

Indeed ouch!
You could try somewhere like the Alpkogel also in Wirl but without the swimming pool.
Galtur itself has I believe an excellent sports centre with a pool that could be used. A bit less convenient but probably a lot less pricey.

kitenski, Dont think kappl will fit the bill at the time of year and need for a pool. FYI we were €1050 for a week half board 2 adults 2 kids, ski in ski out at the alpenfrieden in kappl this year - much cheaper than the €5k or so we paid to stay in oberlech 4 years ago!
We had looked at Samnaun a few years back. Some nice hotels with pools there - one might be called the Montana from memory. Serfaus etc could be an option too but Probably on the same level as ischgl cost wise.

boabski, nice price What time of year was that? The place you recommended we paid €1900ish inc 2 adult lift passes this year on 7th April, but next year our hols match with Easter so prices seem to have shot up!!

Samnaun may not be ideal with small children apart from a couple of nursery lifts the only lift is a large cable car that is a distance from any accommodationa nd a bit of a scrum to get to. Samnaun was otherwise a a good place though the prices for us are higher than Austria self catering hence we return to Kappl.
kitenski,
For height and cheaper prices we looked at the Pitztal a few years ago which looked interesting but we ended up elsewhere so can't report back. Or possibly Stubaital or Heiligenblut again never been and some of them look a bit small.

Nice Thread,This post is useful for me and my family,I really like Ischgl but I dont need that much crazy party either, just a good balance. What do you guys think? Is Obergurgl village big enough to have fun for a week?we've been considering trying another resort and Ischgl was one which someone suggested. Thanks in Advance.
With Best Regards.

kitenski, Most of the 3* accommodation in Ischgl is B&B, while the hotels predominantly are 4* and in the case of the Trofana Royale 5*. Finding a hotel with a pool is unfortunately going to be expensive. However, in the unlikely event that it might rain there is both an indoor and outdoor pool open to the public.
http://www.ischgl.com/a-z-info.en.htm
As other have mentioned if you stay outside of Ischgl or Mathon you have to buy an area pass. Depending on when you go it works out at about €20 to €30 more per adult for the week and €10 for kids.

Hi jckjones29,
maybe you have hear about other ski-resorts near Ischgl, for example: SEE, KAPPL or GALTÜR. This ski-resorts are great but they are smaller and rather quiet. Anyway, they are very close to Ischgl (same region) which means that if you may want to enjoy the party-life some day.. you can without trouble take a taxi and go to Ischgl. Here you can find a link to one of the resorts mentioned above:
