Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski bindings for climbing boots

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Yesterday, I saw a pair of mountaineers come down off GM. They were wearing what looked like B3 climbing boots and were carrying skinny skis with bindings I've never seen before.

Does anyone know what kind of bindings would be used with climbing boots and would they have used this setup for skinning only or also for downhill?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Could well be snow blades as in middle of photo:

Or possibly NTN if there was more to the boots than meets the eye:

Or just possibly NNN if they had some slippers stashed elsewhere:

That's assuming that they weren't from the abundance of AT bindings available eg: Dynafit, Fritschi, Naxo, Silvretta...

Were the boots plastic or fabric and how skinny were the skis?

altis, they were wearing Sportiva climbing boots, like model shown in the pic below (easily recognisable). And they were definitely carrying skis (not blades) that were really skinny, around 65mm - 70mm.

The bindings had some kind of cable bit. They weren't carrying particularly large backpacks that would be able to accommodate ski boots unless that's all that was in the packs or they were cross country ski boots...

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Was a bit confused there by your really skinny skis - to me that means something around 40mm and difficult to envisage up a mountain!

The mention of a cable suggests a telemark binding but that's unlikely with boots without a duck toe. More likely it was just a cable leash (possibly borrowed from tele world) on a Silvretta 500 as others have suggested.

Were the skis black?

altis, they were just average Fischer skis - I have no idea what model, I only noticed the branding. And 65mm is skinny to me... my first skis were 90mm, so I know no better Madeye-Smiley
