Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski Helmet Question

Poster: A snowHead
I have just bought a new ski helmet (Giro G10) and after wearing it for 5 minutes having just taken it out of the box for the first time a colleague of mine hit the side of the helmet whilst I was wearing it with the palm of her hand quite firmly and I'm now worrying if I now need to go and get a replacement helmet as people are saying that you should get it replaced after any impact. What are your thoughts?

Does your colleague look like this?

no, thankfully Smile lol... she didn't quite have that expression on her face and was wearing clothes, but it was fairly strong and enough to get quite a surprise, i guess that's why i'm worried

actually it was the side of her hand as I have just asked her, and she had closed her fist, like if you were going to bang the table, for me when I close my fist like that the side of my hand feels quite firm but spongy as well i guess, i told her i'd been asking on forums for advice about it because I was worried and she just laughed at me... grrrr

bendiddley, I gotta say I'm laughing too.

Look, you gotta be reasonable defining "any impact". If the helmet is unusable due to a side of the palm impact like you describe, what are the chances of it cushioning an impact with a tree or a rock after a ski fall?

ok so the final conclusion to this post is that a thump to the side of the helmet whilst wearing it using the side of a closed fist from a colleague at work taking the wee wee is not significant enough that i will have to replace it? for some reason i just can't let this one go very easily, have been awake during the night thinking about it even though i said i was seeing sense... arrggh

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

bendiddley, ... have you stitched the little button on the side for an eye yet?

 You know it makes sense.

clearly said thump has caused significant trauma, replacing the helmet is secondary in this case

HAVE YOU CONSIDERED ANY OR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING?:
Wearing a ski helmet in the office is a punishable offence. Your female friend was only doing her duty -did you factor this in?
You were lucky not to get cellotaped in permanently.
Photos of said helmet are bound to be posted on the internet, thus potentially ruining your "cool" status for many years-especially if you are on the phone!
Offices can be a hazardous environment -have you considerd as an alternative a FIA approved F1 race helmet with built in fire extinguishers and optional neck brace?
Have you any plans to wear the helmet for skiing, or will you just use it for commuting?
Lastly: Congratulations on buying a great helmet: Did you get the Cyan?

I am a bit worried that your head might be a bit soft!!!!

You should get one of these to protect the helmet.

ok dudes, i think i have finally put this one to rest. having laughed out loud at much of the feedback I have received today i am now feeling a lot better you'll be pleased to hear! I definitely don't think I'll need another helmet to protect my helmet lol (loved the example provided) and also the other recommended office-use body amour, but i might just adopt the pose of the bruce lee pic at the top of this post the next time that woman comes any where near my desk again!
