Poster: A snowHead
|
Snowboard Club UK is reporting today that groundwork has commenced on Xscape's third snowdome: the Braehead project in Glasgow. This will probably be the UK's next dome after Xscape's two previous complexes at Milton Keynes and Castleford, and the Snowdome in Tamworth...
Here is SCUK's report.
We ran a thread on the plans for Braehead snowdome back in June. Here's the link. An opening date of "early 2006" was being given at that time.

What really? finally? I'll have a look when I next pop over to Braehead and try and get them to speed it up a bit

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Indeed - snow on the hills opposite this weekend. Will keep everyone updated if building starts!! Braehead is a no-go area at the moment though (very large shopping centre that seems to attract everyone from the central belt at Christmas times).

BUMP - update on this from snowboard club uk

Chief Executive of X-Leisure PY Gerbeau, has officially launched Xscape featuring Scotland’s first indoor real snow slope. The landmark destination will open in spring 2006 at Braehead and follows the success of Xscape Milton Keynes and Castleford Leeds.
The joint venture with Capital Shopping Centres is anticipated to attract around three million visitors in its first year. A substantial proportion of the visitors are expected to be tourists travelling to Scotland to experience the wide range of skiing and extreme sports facilities that will be available at Xscape Braehead. |
Apparently MK & Castleford managed over 9.5M in 2004. Big business.

....and completely ignoring the wide experience of natural resources lying just outside the city
