Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Salomon RS8 Flex rating

Hey Guys,

I bought a pair of RS8's beginning of last year. On the boot the flex rating is rated at 80 but I noticed the newer versions are rated at 90.
Is the newer version actually stiffer or have they just changed the way they get measured?

Slightly stiffer boot this year they have up'd the flex on pretty much all the boots the past season

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

So I tried on the new RS8 (90) and Impact CS8 (100) and both boots are a lot softer than my old RS8 (80)

How is that possible? I'd say mine feel more like a 120+ Shocked

If the old boot doesn't fit you well round the leg then they may not be flexing it in the same way that you are flexing the boots youmhave tried recently

All speculation without seing you in the boot but if a boot doesn't fit well it can feel a lot stiffer than it is

Hi CEM. I much prefer the stiffer old RS8 so I'll be keeping that for the next few years still (done 2 seasons in them already)

Not sure if it's related to fit as I tried the same size current model RS8 and it felt mega soft. I can flex the entire boot all the way down to the point where the top foot part of the shell is bending with no effort at all.

Looking at how soft current boots are I might go for the RS12 when I upgrade one day.
