Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Help! Can anyone point me in the direction of timtables for buses from Geneva airport to Moutiers, end of august? the transavoie/altibus website doesn't seem to contemplate anyone wishing to travel that route in the summer ... Puzzled

thanks for that suggestion, I've checked it out and unfortunately it seems to take about 5 hours and there aren't any trains back in time for my return flight ...

Your flight times will decide which is more apropriate. I've used both, the train is better for comfort and price, but not always the most convenient. Add to that, you'll be dragging your gear around a bit more.

At last resort you could chat up a rep. many pass through Moutiers and for a 'fee' will add you to the transfer . . . not for the faint hearted (or the ugly).

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

poma, can't help but you're right I think, 5 hrs by train is what I'd expect, there's no line that's even vaguely direct. Indirect, via coach, Annecy then Albertville maybe?

Why not ring their tourist office and ask them? Or one at Val or Bourg etc as it's about the same?

poma, go to www.gva.ch and click through to transport you'll see the bus services listed, alternatively look up Autocars Martin.

Thanks for those links, it doesn't look good - the buses don't seem to run any closer than Chambery, only one a day and not at great times - and the trains are likewise only one a day and not at wonderful times either. I should be able to get the train out, returning to Geneva will be a different matter - may have to hitch! - or do more research. Will report back for the benefit of anyone else considering the public transport in the summer option ...

poma, The Tignes/VD/BSM bus (Stations de Tarentaise) passes through and stops at Moutier (used to be by the train station) I'm looking at last year's timetable and buses leave GVA at 09:40, 10:40, 11:40, 13:10, 14:10, 15:10, 16:25 and from Geneva central station at 18:30, It'll probably be very similar this year.

I gave you the wrong link above (put your glasses on stupid!Embarassed) http://www.alpski-bus.com/

Masque, is that a winter timetable? Poma's looking for end August. Bit tricky to bum a lift on a T.O. coach then. I've had some delayed resort transfers ........ but never quite that long wink

kuwait_ian, I'm doing well here Embarassed not, that is the winter bus, There don't seem to be any buses in the Summer

Sorry poma, I've got my head up my butt, this thing with my Sis is very serious, she's just has a couple of litres of blood transfused and been moved to ITU, so everyone's (me) running around without doing too much thinking. Very sorry for confusing you, looks like the train is the only public option. You'd think that with the French holidays running about the same time, there'd be better public transport services.

I have actually done this with a degree of success, albeit in the winter from Geneva via Annecy to Moutier, it cost about £20.00-30.00 and I jumped on the bus straight out of the airport at 09:30.
I wouldn't take the train as it goes to everywhere but....!!

In the winter there are a few people who advertise airport transfers and the prices used to be £15.00 per head from Cham to Geneva.
Maybe someone here and put you in touch with a local who does these type of trips. I would have thought PG would be the best point of info...!!

Have exhausted all avenues (and myself in the process) and established that there is only one bus/one train a day - hopeless times for my return flight - so am resigned to hiring a car at £93 for 4 days. Thanks all for the input Smile
