Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What are the general guidelines for setting up a GS course? How far apart should the gates be?
Thanks

Canadians say a minimum of 10m between open gates.

jacktaylor10, What age group ?

The minimum is 10m but you would only use that for the two gates in a banana, you wouldn't usually go much below 25m for juniors and seniors.

I'm bored, so here you go.

The gates must be at least 4 m and at most 8 m wide. The distance
between the nearest poles of two successive gates must not be less than
10 m.

The Giant Slalom has to be set as follows (number of direction changes by
rounding up or down of the decimals):
- 11 - 15% of the vertical drop in meters

Children: 13% - 15% of the
vertical drop

Simple answer then, is 10m.

More complicated answer is that it then depends on the terrain, conditions and who is being set for. Children have a minimum radius ski of 17m, junior ladies and above 23m and junior men and above 27m.
All this should have a bearing on the set.
