Champoluc is the in the western valley of the 3 valleys which make up the Monterosa Ski ares (Champoluc - Gressoney - Alagna) and Yes - nearly all the runs in Champoluc are marked as reds, but they're not difficult.
Although the piste skiing is pretty much intermediate in level, the area sells itself as being a Freeride Paradise, as the possibilities for off-piste / backcountry skiing are immense.
Particularly now the new Punta Indren cable car is open, as this serves masses of unpisted routes, and if you have touring skis/skins the possibilities are endless.
Been twice - love it

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Sarny,
1. It's ChampOluc - (or Champolux if you're talking patois)
2. The runs may be marked red but anywhere else they'd be blue. Green runs are only a French idea and only the piste map to indicate flat roads. Champoluc is a perfect place for beginners, except for the crux heading from Saerzza towards the Belvedere chair. But it's a short pitch and soon finished with.

Chamonix
Corchevel (3 valleys pass so Meribel etc..)

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Sarny,
- Possibly better for intermediates than Chamonix
- less extensive than Courcheval or Alpe d'Huez - but easier to navigate
Plus warm Italian hospitality, good value for money, etc.
You'd probably like it

from what ive been told, its not going to be cheaper than staying in the luxury chalets im used to in the previous resorts, apparently im looking at about £1400-1500 each for a week there?

Sarny, flip - we stayed near Gressoney : comfy 2 star hotel 1/2 board & excellent food ~60eu / night
Ski-bus stops right outside the hotel, but bussing was not an issue

I stayed here last year:http://www.stadelsoussun.com/
Amazing if you like peace and quite and great food. Great resort though, smaller and more local than the ones you've been to. Much cheaper than anywhere I've been in France.
