Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Sharp edges and powder

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
In a discussion with other skiiers a while back we were talking about fettling skis and one chap insisted that he did not want his edges sharp if he was going to be skiing powder. The rest of us could not understand why - you are unlikely to catch an edge in powder. Do Snowheads have sharp or blunt edges for powder ? Is there any logic in his argument ?

Sharp edges. Nothing to do with skiing in powder as such - but even on a powder day you never quite know when you'll be skiing on something where decent edges are needed.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

No
In powder it makes no difference if your edges are sharp or not.
Talking about thigh deep fluff here not just 2cm of fresh.

deerman, The only edges are sharp edges (why would you want blunt edges at any time?)

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

The only times I can think that one would want blunt/dull edges would be for park tricks ( blunted by the rails) or for ballet.... Which, seeing as we are no longer in the 1980's/early 90's, shouldn't even factor in.

Perhaps this guy is harbouring a secret..... Laughing

The state of your edges makes no difference in powder.

deerman, Most of the time the journey to the powder would require safety and grip = edges. Why would you want to take the risk when there are no benefits. So the the answer is NO. Sounds like you've been arguing with an idiot.
