Blimey - see the speed that was running at
Looks to me that she got away with it because of her board - with 2 skis she woudl have been flipped and buried upside down ?

Doesn't look like she rode out of it. Seems like she was just led on her back. Very lucky Girl.

Luck, not a particularly deep slab and she was close to the top of it and it broke well below her at the same time.

Fernie represent. Looks like she had presence of mind not to flap around when she was head up and I wonder if she was trying to unstrap her board when she's up to her neck. Reality is she had a pretty good chance of survival in a safe runout with lots of patrollers stationed on the face. Still scary.

Awful long run!
In any case, it's a competition. Plenty of rescuers on hand to help if needed, I presume.

It annoys me when people refer to 'riding' avalanches. You don't ride them, you survive them (or not...).

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

fatbob, fernie? clarky999, you do see people riding out of avalance starts/buildups in ski movies...

DaveC, Riding, or pointing to the side and hoping for the best? Riding kinda implies control of the situation. I've seen a few holiday style videos where someone has filmed a random getting caught in a slide and staying on their feet - then getting all excited "oooh that dude's so rad, he totally surfed that avalanche, I wanna be that cool," which isn't an approach I'm comfortable with...

You know it makes sense.

clarky999, escaping is probably more accurate, I agree!

DaveC, Isn't she based in Fernie for the winter season or at least has been in the past?
