Value For Money in The Three Valleys
Quote: |
This will be a full article eventually, needs some more research, but some tips for now... Let us know your VFM spots, cheers to Mark H for some top tips.
La Tania - Ski Lodge, burger and chips €9.90, Saucisse Savoyarde Bacon Panninis €5
La Tania - on piste, Le Bouc Blanc, the usually excellent Plat du Jour around €12
Courchevel 1850 - on piste, Hotel Courcheneige, €5 pint of Stella.
Courchevel 1650 - La Boulotte breakfast cobs (aka Katie's Big Baps) €6 - CLOSED UNTIL JULY!
Courchevel 1550 - La Taverne opposite the lift by the Grangettes gondola. Stella €5, croque €5
Méribel - Rond Point, Saisonnaires pitcher of lager from €12
Méribel Village - Lodge du Village, big pizza from €9, spag boll €10
Mottaret - Le Chrismaran, €3.60 pint of Jupiter.
St Martin - on piste Le Loy, in town La Voute both recommended, often complimentary digestif.
Val Thorens - FaceWest, big club sandwich & chips €8.60 (while pizzas are €17 !).
Les Menuires (Reberty) - The Igloo bar, next to Ferme (excellent Vin Chaud) and under the same management has huge pizza for €9, large chips €4, baguettes €4, pints €5 & excellent tuna salad.
Dont forget the Salle Hors Sac (Picnic Rooms) at Verdons (1850) and Cairn (VT). The various sandwich bars by lifts/restaurants eg Belair, Roc de Tougne, Plan des Mains etc are generally ok too.
Places to avoid include most places around 1850 especially the Verdons snack bar with mad prices and note that the L'Arpasson in Meribel is now charging 50c to use the toilets. At least the Panorama at the top of the Saulire Cable Car displays all of its prices at the entrance (sometimes the view is worth paying for).
We'd like feedback on the buffet lunch at the Hotel Courcheneige (€27 but looks great) and the Skiers Special at Le Chabichou (€28 or €50 for 3 courses but 2 Michelin Star quality - the lobster with pear & apples is €100 and only on the à la carte menu!). Maybe worth a splurge....
Context always needed:
Slug & Lettuce in London, burger & chips £8.95, pint of Stella £4 (and the skiing's rubbish).
UK Snow Dome, 4 hours, 160m of slope, peak price £56 (and pizza from £8 ).
Three Valleys, 4.5 hours, 600km of slope, peak price €38.

I will vouch for the Plat du Jour at the Bouc Blanc, had it many times over the past 2 seasons and it has always been excellent

sarah, +1.
Ronnies also has good value lunches, can't remember any specifics, just remember going back there a couple of times cos it had a nice vibe and we didn't feel like our wallets had been raped.
