Poster: A snowHead

Really fancy Mayrhofen but cant escape until 7th April, mixed group with mostly Intermediates and one person wanting to go in ski school to gain more confidence( but has skiied a few times before )
Will there be enough snow high up to suit everyone and enable us to meet up for lunches etc ? or should we forget Mayrhofen and look elsewhere ( want to avoid France )

Good stuff. The benefit will be empty slopes, the snowbombing crew aren't exactly early risers.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

You've got the Hintertux glacier just up the road if it goes tits up, although I've been hearing a few (speculative/hopeful) murmerings of a nordstau brewing up for end of march/start of april... not too sure how that would affect Mayrhofen, but (if it happens) could equal large dumpage in other parts of Tirol...
*Sat here with clasped hands praying to Ullr, as I haven't had a proper pow day yet this season, apart from a fairly modest storm in November.

Sorry for the ignorance but whats a 'Nordstau' and is it good ??
How easy is it to ski the Hintertux glacier if staying in Mayrhofen itself, is it easy to get too and are there a mixture of easy/intermediate runs once at Hintertux. I think I read that theres a train aswell as ski buses but cant seem to find any more info.

karencannon, the train terminates in Mayrhofen. From there, regular buses continue up the valley and stop at Hintertux. Travel time is around 25 minutes from memory.
Hintertux doesn't have a lot of easy runs, but if the coverage is OK down to the Sommerbergalm then there's enough to make it passable for your lower confidence person. If not, they'll be very restricted. See http://www.tux.at/fileadmin/PDF/Lageplaene__Panoramen/pistenplan_hintertuxer_gletscher.pdf
Mayrhofen tops out at 2500m, while the glacier gets to 3200m. It's not unusual for Mayrhofen to have plentiful coverage at the end of the season, but this year may be a bit different as there hasn't really been much of a base built up so far.
