Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Go and see a sports physio and get an assessment of the problem.

I don't think cracking noises are an issue IIRC from what my consultant told me - swelling and/or locking up is.

as CP, says, go see a physio, could be tight hamstrings related to spinning, or something outside of the knee area!!

Smokin Joe, look up crepitus and you'll see that it is often noisy but harmless. I take Omega 3 oils which seem to help my joints as well as my cholesterol levels for some reason. I click and crack like anything, especially after sitting or sleeping in one position for too long.

If you are still feeling the grating though, despite the lack of pain or swelling, you really should get a good sports specialist to take a good look at the knees. What seems minor now and only occasional may be the beginning of something nasty and more drastic if left without remedial measures for too long. The season is probably over now for you or are you on the ESOB as well? If not why not get seen to now and then you'll be fit and ready for next season Cool

Knee pain is the worst! I suffer from it as well, i spoke to a doctor friend of mine about this the other week whilst we were jogging. He advised cod liver oil based on personal experience...i'm going to give it a go!

Linds, as far as I am aware, it simply provides compression and supports the patella and so reduces the stress on the patella tendon. (info from FIL when hubby had such a problem a while ago) , He used tape though rather than a strap.

I suggest spinning the roulette wheel with the other hand .. Shocked

Know little about knees really .. I tend to be asleep when they pick bits out of mine. Only time I had cracking & severe pain it was a cartilage ... but I do now know there are many different 'issues' associated with 'cracking' knees and it takes a good quack and machinery to identify and sort out.

A long way of saying "Go & See the Doc" .. which is about as useless info as you can get really. Embarassed

Agenterre, I keep reading your signature as 'Moriarty' and not 'Mortality' . My mother told me he was just a passing phase.

Hells Bells, Little difference in my case ... I confess that came to me here one evening reading some bollox about protecting your kids from the evils of the world, sanctity of one's own space, other stuff which had nothing to do with giving life a good ripping .... just back off boat so somewhat less sober than most here would be accustomed to ....... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Toofy Grin

I was having a similar pain once and what really helped me was taking as much rest as possible. I did miss some of the best skiing opportunities, but its important to take all your time to heal up.

I ended up having surgery on my knee due to bursitis (years of ballet turn-out abuse). Made no difference at all due to bent knee / weightbearing position whilst skiing. Very Happy My ortho surgeon's advice was to keep the joint mobile generally and strengthen the surrounding muscles & ligaments. I tend to wear a tubigrip and neoprene support, seems to help and keep swelling down. Of course, ibuprofen washed down with beer also assists.

Do you run with a heel first gait, if you do this places more strain on your joints. Try altering your gait and running ball of your foot or middle foot first, it reduces the stress on joints in that most of the stress is taken up by the calf.
