After much deliberating I bit the bullet this morning to book a flight to Grenoble. A friend is out in Les 2 Alpes and I would like to spend a couple of days skiing with him. I am going by myself and am 50 and not really done this impulse thing before. I need to now book some accommodation either hotel, chalet which is proving difficult as there doesnt seem to be anything available, perhaps I should have checked this before impulse took over!
Two questions really, which is better for a single traveller and which is nicer? Ski area not that important to me as I am a very average intermediate.
Also anybody any idea how to find some accommodation, not fussy as long as reasonably priced. Another question am I right in saying that even if I stay in Alpe Dhuez the lift pass covers Les Deux Alpes for a couple of days?
I am going next Saturday (12th) for a week by the way, well I hope I am as long as I find a bed! Any help much appreciated.

For accommodation, contact Cathy at the Lutins at Les Deux Alpes - very decent B&B hotel, very French, best location in town.

chrish, I see Cathy now has a website and that her contact number is +33 (0)4 76 79 21 52
I also see that the rates are quoted per room - but in the past she has quoted single occupancy rate when contacted personally. That could be because I went at a quiet time - but it's always worth a try. Wifi was free in the bar.

You'll need to Register first of course.

You guys obviously know the area so would you recommend Les Deux Alpes over Alpe Dhuez,

Colin B, I see we cross-posted I agree very much about easiski.

chrish, personally I (marginally) prefer ADH to LDA for piste cruising but I think a week's pass in ADH will only give you 1 day in LDA so I guess your better option is LDA. They will both be amply sufficient for a week of intermediate skiing.
LDA is also more of a pub / nightlife spot than ADH, not sure if that's appealing or not.

I think you get one day in AdH (and Serre) with an L2A pass 6 day pass, and vice versa. I'm sure Lizzard will know for sure.
Have you sorted out your transfer from airport to resort?

another x-post withhorizon!
Agree with both Colin B, and achilles, about a lesson with Easiski.
I've been to both, AdH was my first week skiing so I don't think I made the most of the area - still had a good time. We pretty much skied most of L2A and it was great.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Six-day pass in 2Alpes gives you two days in Alpe d'Huez, one day each in Serre Chevalier, Montgenevre, Voie Lactee, Puy St Vincent, and unlimited access to La Grave provided the link is open. Plus pool and ice rink. Alpe d'Huez pass costs more and gives you much the same but without La Grave.
Try the tourist office website for accommodation - http://www.les2alpes.com/

chrish, so where are you going ? Remember that if you choose Alpe d'Huez you'll need a Kermit the Frog costume topped with a jester hat if you want to feel at ease.

You know it makes sense.

After following this thread we also decided on L2A...
Not really, we got a good last minute deal and haven't been here before... So does anyone have any good recommendations for Apres Ski / Happy Hour /cheap bars /runs / restaurants / lunch stops? We need some good tips of must do's.
How far is AdH? Is the shuttle bus included for the 2 days in Alpe d'Huez / Oz / Vaujany (VFD shuttle service twice a week)?
TIA

WayneC, shuttle bus is extra (8€ return, I think), book in advance at the VFD office near the pharmacy at the Venosc end or the tourist office at the Point I Mont de Lans. Runs on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Helicopter trip also available at rather more than 8€, info from the lift pass offices.
