Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

More Arlberg antics - St Anton and Stuben

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Woke up to clouds in the valley this morning and the St Anton apres led to a 10am departure.... Plan was to head towards Stuben for a gentle off piste day.

The route to Stuben took us via the Schindlergrat. Some nice couloirs at the top. Squeezed our expanding bodies under the cables...

This isn't Verbier. 3 days after the last dump and and a single track in the best shaded couloir

Tim is game

Round the corner and on the second pitch

Decent pow coming out the bottom

Schindlergrat couloirs

Legs warmed up we headed for Stuben and the Maroikopf

Maroikopf is an easy 30 min skin/hike from Albonagrat

Hiking up for a line into the Krachel (bowl)

Some nice snow left on the first pitch

Second pitch wind affected but Tim finds a nice sporting line

Enjoying some fresh air

The "Wasserfall" exit to the Langen Forest

Another fun day in the Arlberg

Had to deal with more wind affected snow and some early clouds today but not difficult to find nice options in an area as big and beautiful as the Arlberg. Plan to hike up to Valluga and tour off the top tomorrow. Hope the weather plays ball.

Nice pics Bobin. I've skied the Schindlergrat couloirs. One of my more impressive feats. Really need to get back their sometime!

BobinCH, respect on the Schindlergrat couloirs I've looked down it and thought "never in this life time". The one by the lift looked seriously steep. Great photo's again Very Happy

That couloir lives in my memory.

I fell head first on my very first turn at the top. Although I had never practised it, I used the press up technique which I had read about to stop myself and fortunately it worked.

What the photographs do not show is that in that particular couloir about thirty metres down it splits where there is a rock in the middle. If you were to go over the rock there is a significant drop which could be very serious indeed. Once you get into the gullies either side, although the skiers left side is the better one, you are relatively safe.

That fall was probably my scariest moment ever on skis. As I said, I remember it well and that was over twenty years ago now.

You can go round the netting and traverse across into those couloirs if the gap isn't big enough btw. Your very lucky with the snow in them though, normally most of them get very mogulled very quickly! Glad to see you're having a good time though, we went for a small tour today near Innsbruck and everything was pretty sun/wind affected.
