Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Insurance

I'm starting to look at insurance for the EoSB (and for any other future trips)

In the past I've used the BMC as I also go climbing/hillwalking etc so know they are good and trusted with such matters. However they are around £45 for the week off the top of my head.

Just donw a quick search on moneysupermarket.com and the cheapest they came back with (including skiing) was less than £9.

now obviously I've not jet compared the excesses/amount your coverd for in each catagory and this would make a big difference in cost I would imagine.

I am more interseted to know if other people have used companies from such websites and found them good/bad/indifferent...

The cheapest company it came up with was OLU Direct

followed by Top Notch, Vergin, Premier Travel, Club Direct, EHIC Plus... The list is never ending...

So what if anything do people know of companies such as these, ie not specialis outdoor type people?

Crazy Climber, search the site - you'll find a bunch of threads on this. Briefly, it depends on whether you might go off-piste - and if so if you might wish to go without a guide. Also, for me it would depend on the record of the company in meeting reasonable claims. Finally, you may wish to make sure you don't duplicate cover already given by your household insurance by using a company with modular cover such as snowcard. Personally, I am with the BMC this season.

Without looking at the terms and conditions of all of these companies you have no idea what you are getting. Firstly the excess may be high which sounds alright unless you have to make a claim, they may not cover you for off piste or trekking above 2000 metres these are all things I have come across. Personally I always phone as I have a medical condition and you cant take policies out on the internet if you have one, I know of at least one company that wont insure me despite my problem being quite common.
