Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

How long are races?

I have been looking on the interwebz but there is surprisingly little information, so I decided to find the most popular ski forum - much easier to find.

Does anyone know the average length(km) for an international standard Slalom or Downhill?

Many Thanks.

the fis website shows the requirements for a downhill etc (in fact all races).
no requirement on length, more to do with vertical if i remember correctly.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Yeah, I looked on the site but with no requirement on length, it didn't really give much detail as to how long these two races generally are.

You can actually do some approximate calculations... at least for SL and GS. Number of gates is set, then pretty much all SL and GS are set on same gate distance, and from this you can get approximate length. Now don't understand me wrong... gate distance varies, and different combination make it even worse, but if you look on average, they are pretty close.
If you really want to search for this, then there's database of homologations on FIS web. Each course has to have one, at least if you want to run FIS races there. And there is also length of the course written there. But if I remember right, this database goes by course id number not by name, so you will most likely be searching for nothing if you will be doing searches for Gran Risa for example.
