I managed to get hold of a copy of the installer from a guy in work. It's pretty impressive...

Dr Che, In Schladming, you can even see the lift cables . . . and that's the lo-res rendition. Where the've inputed the Hi-res (about Mil standard 15 years ago) you can see people (Mum's in the back garden). You can see how the back bowls at Vail all relate to the surounding mountains. Personaly, I think it'll be very useful, but I'll want it on CD or complete in memory rather than live.
Street name overlay is cute, shops, B&Bs, anyone going to ski in the states can really get a feel for their destination.

mesk1, Same data but MMMMMMUCH better and easier to use. Imagine you have a spaceship and can fly to anywere in the world and then overlay maps and other data shops, hotels etc.

Masque, Its pretty cool - will be even better eventually once everywhere is mapped.

Wow that's nice, of course having a workstation level graphics chip in my laptop helps, even so it's very good just for the free version

It's opened up now. Downloading as I write. No idea how big the file is - bit naughty not telling you in advance or even during the dowload - -- - unknown file size. Download complete - about 20MB.

You also need to know nearby cities as it does not seem to have many places in its search database, I have to admit that I am quite amused though, they seem to have run a buldozer through the peak of teh Jungfrau, Eiger and Monk are both there but the next peak is flat, likewise some of the place names are not in quite the correct locations.
By the way does anyone know the website that has A digital Map + overlaid photos of Switzerland, I know about the Swis geo one but there was another that I'm sure a fellow snowHead posted

How often is it updated?
I can see from the crops in our fields that it is this year, but when?

johnboy, it's updated when a sattellite is comissioned to do overheads, the quality varies considerably, but the high resolution pics are amazing unfortunately it would seem that only the latest images are at that 60cm resolution, also they have to wait till there is a minimum of cloud cover.
This shows the difference between the high res and lower res as it appears on Goggle Earth
