Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

That is a damn good question. If only there was a web-site that allowed someone to enter two location and have it calculate the distance between them. Perhaps they could also indicate the best route to take. I think we've spotted a gap in the market here...

No, wait, someone has beaten us to it - http://lmgtfy.com/?q=driving+distances+in+austria

dazman, You can ski Soll to Kitzbuhel and back but it would be a long day! By car about 20mins.

dazman, Söll to St Anton - about 2 hours if you are lucky with the roadworks and the damned IG-L 100kmh speed limit (about 105kms plus or minus wherever you start and end ). The A12 is littered with bloody cameras to pick up those who feel that the 100kmh rule does not apply to them. And you would need to have a valid Vignette (7.90 Euro currently for 10 days).

The ski over to Kitz requires you to get over to Westendorf, up the Choralpe and across to Gampenkogel so you can go down the Ki-West slopes. That drops you on to the Aschau-Kirchberg road and you'll then need to hop on the bus to either Aschau (not advised) or Skirast (better link) where you then get one of the lifts up on to the Pengelstein. The bus stop is at the bottom of the Ki-West gondola.
It would be a long day and missing any of the links back could cause you to rack up a reasonable taxi fare home. But if you start early enough, definitely not an impossible day for good skiers. 2 gondolas up from Söll to the Hohe Salve, then via Piste 1 down to Brixen (choice of red, blue or black!). A gondola up Choralpe, then 2 chairs over to Gampenkogel. not a nice run if the weather is claggy though. Coming back - Ki-West gondola, 2 chairs back to Choralpe (possibly one depends on your route) and then rush back over to Söll via Brixen/Hochbrixen.

Going by car you are looking at about 30 minutes, depending on traffic. It is all Landstrasse, so the speed limit changes a lot and the Austrian police love taking pictures with their mobile cameras, especially if you have a German registered car! You really do need to observe the speed limits in built up areas along the route (i.e. between the signs which say the name of the town and the sign saying you've left it!). The best access is via Kirchberg rather than Kitz itself as the parking is easier to get to and the Fleckalmbahn is nowhere near as congested as the Hahnenkamm parking and lift. Coming from my area on a Saturday or a Sunday for a day's skiing in Kitz, I always bypass the main town and go directly to the Fleckalmbahn. Never had a problem parking nor much of a queue to get up the hill in the gondola Toofy Grin
