Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I'd say I was an intermediate all mountain rider, try and ride off to the side of the piste as much as possible, was thinking a skate banana! What do you all think? My 8/9 year old board is a Ride Fleetwood. It's a bit wide and numb.

Roughneck, big rocker boards are not so much fun on hardpack and the technique is a step on from traditional shapes, it was marmite for me so I picked a sweet deal on last year's Rome Anthem. Trad shape and camber but sweet pop and super edge hold. You need to try before you buy so why not rent this season and try a different board each day to get the feel of the differences . . . and they are different.

Yep, I'm with Masque. Try in the resort on one of these rent before you buy deals.

Rocker boards can be very scary on a fast piste and if that's all you have to play with, won't be as much fun as a camber board.

Off piste, rocker is great but don't be fooled by them saying you only need a 152 despite being 90kg. Surface area still counts, whether rocker or camber.

Have a look at the Jeremy Jones boards which are a combination of rocker and camber. They are also dripping in 'cool'.

Thanks guys I never new that. I'll have to have a look when I'm in La Plagne at the end of the month.

Just my opinion, but I found rocker + magnetraction is the way to go, over just rocker, it felt like a much more controlled ride.

I rode two new powder boards that are flat through the middle... ie no camber... carved on piste very well, enough to have alot of fun.....along with other great stuff off piste.
Only rub was would not power up as much as a cambered model in good visability off piste,(Ihave a cambered model too so can compare to a degree!)
After this last dec and jan I am looking at things with my eyes a little more wide open.It was surprising to say the least but all good.

The same rules still apply as far as flex goes I believe though.Stiff brds use more energy and need a tuned rider but lift off any bump.
Non stiff lenghtwise powder boards with torsional control seem good brds in a pow and piste combo brd.

And when the big players with a vested interest say buy shorter it just means they will sell a longer one next season.Remember the 156cm burton fish when it came out!ride it shorter was the word,156cm short.
Its now in 164cm

Hoovercraft in 160cm next season apparently, which means it may be equal to a 186cm now,a upgrade from the 156 hoovercraft equaling a 178cm?.
Marketing spiel goes along way even on top of a good board.
Not sure what a 164 hoovercab would equal out too in lenght?

I think this after riding and owning two rocker boards and also the older cambered versions of the same.
( These examples are with tail rocker and early rise noses on a powder board.... ie not the full banana thing)

"I believe you can go longer not shorter in lenght"

As more board end is in the air ,effectivly shorter contact being more responsive, until its laid over and grabs, on its full edge lenght.
Also I just plain rode a flat one and a minimal camber one and felt it,if anything its too responsive.
This is with a minimal camber or flat through the middle types of boards ( ie with nose and tail rocker, not mid board banana.)

I would like try a full banana though, gyrator is the one I think.

Roughneck, I got a Lib Tech Skate Banana last season and I love it, grips well on ice with the magnetraction , very forgiving and easy to turn. Expensive but worth every penny in my opinion.

Roughneck, Edge to Edge are a good hire company. I hired a board in Les Arcs last year from them and it was delivered to my apartment and picked up at the end of the week. No hassle at all dealing with them and they have a great selection of boards to hire. Have a look on their website if you are interested www.edge2edge.co.uk. And they do Skate Bananas !

I would strongly recommend this. If you spend time in the park it's great, if you like piste hooning or carving then it's not.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

JMO...........I went from a Ride Timeless (a good board in itself) to a Skate Banana two seasons ago, never looked back. I'm with hang11 & Papalaz on this, but definitely recommend demoing. Don't just do a couple of runs and tell everyone it's crap, have at least a half a day as it may take you a while to get used to it.

Do a search, there are several threads in this section already.
