Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Deep Powder - Board or Skis?

 Poster: A snowHead

If I was to invest some time with an off-piste guide/instructor, should I go for board or fatskis? What's funnest? I'm a better skiier than boarder but I've always preferred my board off-piste.

Rocker skis or swallowtail for the win (&if offpiste means powder). Largely depends on what offpiste you want to do if it involves long traverses or situations where you really need to hold an edge or skin no question there are benefits to skis.

Cue parlor "Only invest in a snowboard if you've a time machine back to the early 90s" wink

Have you tried mono-boarding ?
A nice compromise and the best of both worlds! snowHead

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

It's very easy:

Less skills = more fun on a gay tray

More skills = more fun on skis

AntonAusTirol, if you won't be falling over or coming to a stop in any powder ponds then a board is the thing to go for (you don't want to come to a halt in deep powder on a board).

I assume you fancy enjoying the fantastic surf-on-snow experience. If you're more into a challenge then use skis (more skill required).

You get the surfy feeling on fat rockered skis, as well as the bonus of easier access to the goods on skis (amongst other things). Remember there's much more to offpiste than powder too. Go for whichever you enjoy the most, for me skis win easily. I'm awful at boarding though.

If you can board, nothing compares to surfing 200m of powder.

Fatties now come very close and have the advantage if you need to walk out at the end but I'd probably watch some FWT bids and decide which looks like more fun.
